Ive recently picked up an IBM Thinkpad 760 XD laptop, due to its age it only has a disk drive, CD drive and no USB ports. Is anyone familiar with this model and know the best way to get files onto the laptop (ive tried plugging the hard drive into a 2.5" IDE to USB cable but it just clicks).

could be that you need an externally powered USB adaptor to get the drive to run (IE if it needs more current than USB will provide).

burning a cd is probably your simplest option.

or you could get a PCMCIA network card and DOS FTP client.

or delve into the ancient and miserable world of serial/parallel transfer.

If it's got a disk drive and a CD drive you just put the files you need onto a Floppy/CD and copy them across in DOS. That's the simplest way.
