If you could go back to any year in the past , what year would it be and why ???

Mine is 1986 , One of the best arcade years IMO (Wonderboy ect !). Also the holidays we used to have in Rhyl and the sheer amount of fun we had. Oh and I had hair and it was not gng grey ! lol

Dave.

P.S Just a bit of fun so knock your selves out. I need cheering up.

I think it would be 1992 for me.

In the arcades you still had classics from the 80s and the great games from the 90s that had been released so far! This was about the best time for me personally in arcades.

1991 to 1993, during the height of the rave scene. I loved every minute of it. Care free, loads of friends, hot girls, driving my classic mini. In fact I think I'm going to cry If I carry on!

Well, if you're not allowed to go back to meet historical figures, view the construction of the pyramids in their gold-plated glory or commit useful assassinations, then I'd say

1997.

Donning a cunning disguise (so as not to disrupt the space-time continuum), I'd give my younger self a slap for being a bit of a dick and screwing up talking to girls.

Then I'd cram-full my articulated-lorry time machine full of super-cheap PCBs and return to the present day to live the life of a millionaire.

I did the 80's, the games were good, I liked a lot of the tunes, but it was otherwise a bit grim.

1991 - clubbing at the Hacienda twice a week (Mancunian here);

arcades still around (started playing Parodius after college - no not uni - after the era of Vulcan Venture which it parodied);

in my classic Mini (being chased by cops in their Peugeot 309 (not 306) diesels and Sherpa vans and never catching me and my mates,

and folks still with us on this Earth...

Was useless with girls though - shockingly I'm better with them now (no it's not that I can afford prozzies now before you say anything !)

Most of these have been mentioned above just a year different to me

1990 March 31st
Poll tax riot
London

A day that changed my life
Witnessing first had the them and us.

Walking past the big banks and seeing all the employees in there big glass buildings staring at us marching
Past Singing our anti thatcher anti establishment songs..
I felt like I was in the film time bandits at the beginning when all the buildings turn into battle ships and that the world was actually changing ….
Being trampled by police horses. Seeing front lines formed and people improvising defensive
And offensive Materials out of anything they could find ( metal dustbins ) against the police riot force which had began a systematic improvised attack on the demonstrators ( us)

Being told to stay together link arms and don’t retaliate when the police attack us because that’s what they want. Then a pregnant women was knocked to the ground by a police horse.

Hemmed in by horses riot police weilding Battons
Seeing blood hearing the noise of people chanting, screaming , fighting, people trying to give orders.

The first time I really felt alive…. Chaos Beautiful ugly disturbing chaos.

It would be cool to go back to that day and to be able to stop that horse knocking that women over.
It was a flash point

I was 11 years old
And my mum was educating us ( 2 bro 1 sis ) in the school of life.

That was like how mad life was
You would be back at school the next day.

1990 A little console called the snes came out.
Italia 90 watching Maradona live on tv.

November 1990 thatcher resigned :)

Arcade games 1990 that grabbed me
Final fight
Turtles
Simpsons
Street fighter II
1941
Raiden

Germany beats england on penalty’s World Cup
Senna wins F1
A perfect year

1981, magical year for a 7 year old.
The charts were full of amazing music at the tail end of punk mixed with synth pop and ska - Madness, Depeche Mode, The Police, Adam and the Ants, Soft Cell. Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision with those skirts.

The arcades were packed as Donkey Kong, Defender, Scramble and Frogger were released while Pacman and Asteroids could be found in every pub or chip shop.

At home the ZX Spectrum was released along with countless other British micros. Computers could be seen on TV, in schools, in shops like WH Smith for the first time.

Cinema was had Raiders of the Lost Ark and Cannonball Run. Star Wars was still massive everywhere.

On TV you had the last of Tom Baker on Dr Who, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dukes of Hazzard and Kenny Everett at his funniest.

Holidays to Devon in the Vauxhall Viva. Long summers playing in the park. Top Deck shandy.

I wish every year could be like 1981!!!

Anywhere in the 80s, all the good stuff, as ataridude says the vast array of home computers, arcades galore. Drop me into 87 and I'll be playing Outrun on the summer weekend daytrips to Brighton, 85 and I'll be in Weston Super Mare playing iRobot, 81 and Isle Of Wight playing pacman, Cromputer Win and Tank Attack (wonderful mechanical magnetic tank game). All the while a child and blissfully unaware of responsibility :)

Probably 87, I was 13 years old and had a major crush on the Italian girl next door, who just turned 16. Let's just say she taught me a few things about the birds and the bee's that summer. Then the master system came out, so it was a pretty perfect year.

I went out with an Italian girl in the late 90s and when she gave me a b*** job, I used to call it an Italian Job (and yes, I own a classic Mini with Italian Job badges)
