Time to introduce myself methinks...

Being brought up in Torbay means I have fish & chips and seaside arcades flowing through my veins. Leisure 2000 in Paignton and the Purple Penny in Brixham were my personal faves and 2nd homes.

Some 30 years later I have a small collecting beginning to grow:

Pinballs: Cirqus Voltaire. Monster Bash. Addams Family. All working great (touch wood) and excellent condition.

Arcade Machines: Neo Geo cab which is home to a Mame system, which is on it's last legs, but still plays my top 70 games. It refuses to play Moon Patrol tho, which is a shame!

I have just bought a Taito Space Invaders and a US Midway Pac Man. Both completely original, but neither enjoyed the journey back to my place. Both now have ROM faults. Space Invaders has horizontal lines through the invaders. Pac Man keeps re-booting itself once it has warmed up. So I need either replacement boards or a friendly repairer. I have zero technical knowledge and too much enthusiasm, making me somewhat dangerous, so good advice with be most welcome.

I also need a coin box for the Space Invaders.

If anyone can help or advise on the above it would be much appreciated.

I am always on the look out for dedicated cabs & pinballs. Wanted list includes: Paperboy, Galaxians, and Attack From Mars and Revenge from Mars pinballs.

Having viewed the forum for while it's good to be on board, and hope I can contribute.

All the best...

Andy

Hi Andy and welcome along. You just missed a cheap Paperboy (sans PCB's) sadly :(

Get yourself a Digital Multimeter and check out the power supply on the Pac. Resets can just be a low/high 5v line.

Hi Adrian,

How's things? Thanks for the pointer to here. Been enjoying scanning thro here over the last couple of weeks.

Wasn't sure if you would be able to find the time to fix my cabs, so I'm trying to find some help. Let me know if you can still fix these or if you'd rather I seek out an alternative.

Dan just suggested what seems a potential easy fix on Pac Man. Is it worth a try from what you saw?

All the best, your No.1 stalker.

Hi Dan, Thx for the welcome. I had seen the Paperboy a couple of times and debated the chances of getting the PCB and getting him going with my non-existent skills.

I like the sound of your advice on Pac Man. He was working like a beauty when I picked him up. But 200 miles later he's half the man he was. The wiring around the power pack is poor and making the odd suspect crackling sound if you wiggle the mains lead. Being technically rubbish what would I need to do with said multimeter?

Cheers, Andy.

Here you go Ian...

The Pins and the Neo Geo cab. Space Invaders and Pac Man are too unwell to be phot'd at present.

When nursed back to health and installed in Games Room II I'll pop pics of those on too.

From what I remember the pacman reboots when you touch one of the roms. 3 of the roms have already been replaced and the rest are original. The original roms look a bit fragile and I'd bet that if you tried removing them that several of the legs would probably be left behind. I can't guarantee thats the problem but it would be a good place to start.

The space invaders looks like a bad shifter.

I'm still happy to look at them but my timetable for getting my workbench built is slipping by the day so I can't make an promises about when I could get it done. The main thing is to get your cabs working and this is a great place to get help. If you're still having trouble when I've got my workbench setup then I'm happy to pop down and take another look.

Both cabs are in great condition and Andy has a great setup. would be great to see some pics on here.

Cheers

Thanks Ade.

I'll see how I get on trying to get things sorted then. I may give you a call for a bit of advice if I get stuck taking things apart and putting back together.

In terms of getting a multimeter what do you suggest and where is best to buy one from?

Good luck with getting everything set-up in due course.

All the best,

Andy

Hi Andy. Great to have you on the forum and I hope you continue to enjoy it here :)

You've got some nice machines there and I fancy a couple of those pins!

If you want advice on a multimeter and/or fixing Pac then get a thread up in Tech and you'll have advice coming out of your ears
