Looks like either it's shutting down at the end of the year or will be changing hands.

Either way it's the end of an era...

That's been going on for weeks, probably the final straw, picture uploads working intermittently, timeouts etc...

It sounds like their database is corrupt. If that's been going on for a while then any backups they have will also be compromised.

Probably hard to come back from without some major DR recovery and/or analysis tools and some £.

I'm a M$-SQL DBA so know what a PITA fixing corrupt databases can be - especially if it's been left too long.

I suppose I better migrate my Megalo rebuild over here then....

Being a former long term moderator (I also designed the current long term banner/logo/badge whatever you may call it ) , I'd had enough a while back (and had more pressing issues going in in my life) , However, It was very nice to be involved for a long while but then things started to go down hill with flaming wars and stuff and a lot of it went over my head (Quite a lot late on I was not even privvy to)....

One thing that wound me up was that I'd inputted lots of tech stuff and notes early on, for it all to be lost during a server crash as there was no proper backup (prior to Luke helping).... I don't keep notebooks so kind of saved the info online....

I was also the usual suspect (or one of them at the very least) when It came to twisting arms and getting the team to attend shows or was taking my own machines out and putting the flyers out... (certainly up to and including the first Replay in Blackpool, maybe even the second one partially but unsure now, cos I knew the shows were worth while and would be good to support).

I felt a bit alienated later on (just before / around the same time as the Early RGP parties)..... Things kind of came to a head.... and then suddenly without warning (and was certainly not given a clear or concise argument/explanation) I was literally kicked off the mod's section shortly after having a couple of drinks with some of the guys from UKVAC at one of the Blackpool shows I think prior to being involved with the Revival show as I'd made it clear that I would be supplying a couple of machines or so having been asked by Boyo/Craig and mentioned that I would be rubbing shoulders with the UKVAC guys... Maybe they thought I was jumping ship or whatever which was not the case, I was just helping out at one of the shows !!

I rapidly lost faith after that.... especially as it was all innocent and there was no monkey business going on..... There were also some petty facebook de-friendings and stuff due to me having certain other friends on my list..... I'm not one to be told who I can and who I cannot have as friends on social media ffs !!

Anyway.... No major grudges and I'd quite happily have a beer and a friendly chin wag with all involved and have a laugh about it all now..... (But I feel that certain people may just avoid me now which is a bit of a shame as I haven't gone out to offend them in the first place!!)

Main thing is (forums aside) we are all still around... we attend shows (many of us) and meets , Arcade Club, etc.... so long live arcade collecting and being a mostly friendly bunch of guys and gals to each other....

Those that know me well know that I'm not a huge avid gamer, more of a collector and tech person, I'm not a huge social animal but the friendly scene and shows I enjoy.... especially the friendly banter over a few beers and a curry....

Every forumblows up once in a while.

If anyone thinks there won't be a civil war on UKVAC, is lying to themselves. It'll happen at some point.

Just take a look at 'pinball bastards' to see what kind of coconuts are out there.

Nice words Colin.

This scene is to small to hold grudges and It's way more fun meeting up with people to have a game and a beer.

The hot heads don't last long usually which is great.

My 10p worth (and this is my opinion only). I'm stunned, but then when I think about it I'm not. Running these forums is much more involved and complicated than I think most people realise, especially given that we all do it in our spare time.

I think the grudges mentioned have all largely healed over time, we're all a bit older and wiser and just want to concentrate on what this is - a hobby that's supposed to be fun. I'm sad J+ might be going, I hope they change their mind or at least the content can be retained somehow.

No, they don't have to - it's down to personalities involved and how they address situations. ColinD summed it up pretty well in his post.
