Kick and Run Taito pcb not giv four player option?

A puzzler for you.

I picked up the above board off UKVAC lately, just got it installed in a cab with a kick loom for players 3 and 4. All booted up fine, but we only seem to get two player options.

I've tried the dip switches, but no change. Do you think we have a two player version of the board and if so, can it be changed with a rom swap, like say X Men?

Maddening!

Any ideas, guys?

According to mame it is a dip switch setting between 2 and 4 players. There’s only 2 rom differences and those are regional not player number specific. Dip switch b no.5.

Mexico 86 seems to be the same.

Have you tried to coin up on 3 and 4 players?

Aye, we tried dip switch 5 but to no avail. It also seemed to be a common coin slot, however are you suggesting there's a common coin slot for players 1 and 2 and a second common coin slot for players 3 and 4? Would explain a great deal in theory..

Tbh I don’t know, but i would assume that if a common coin slot is used, you simply push the start button for each player you want to use, a bit like joining in on any sort of 4 player cab. Have you tried pushing 1,2,3 and 4 player start to see if you can join in? Providing of course you’ve got credits in SUPERSPRINT2019-02-16 21:40:55

Oddly, there's no start button. It opens a menu with a list of options you choose with a joystick. So p1 v computer, Pw v p2, Pw and P2 v computer but nothing else, even when half a dozen credits are added.

It's quite innovative and we'll ahead of the times, except we can't get anything above two players.

Perhaps the dipswitch itself is knackered. Have you got continuity when it’s on? If not then short it out and see if it makes a difference.

Other than that, must be a broken signal to and or from that dip option.

To add to that, maybe it’s referring to p1 (as sticks p1 and p2 ) and p2 (as sticks 3 and 4) have you started and game to see if you can control 4 players?

Isn't there a daughter board needed for 3 and 4 player to work? I could be wrong.

There's a daughterboard with it, you connect players 3 and 4 to it. The dipswitch on the fritz feels worth a look. Thanks all!
