To start looking for the missing sprites i went straight to the sprite roms which are located on the cpu pcb L7/M7.Scoped the address and data pins which were all inactive🫥 ,scoped the OE pin on both roms which was stuck high. These OE pins should be toggling. The OE pins goto to B6(ls174) pin 12,scoped all output pins but all high, checked pin 9 for a clock signal
but got zilch.
.ld17.jpg This clock signal goes to H5(ls42) pin 6 output pin,pin 12 and 13 was active but nothing on pin 14 and 15.Looked at J5(ls393) pin 1 for a clock but zilch followed to E7(ls175) pin 10 and nothing, pin 3 and 7 was active. There was a good clock signal on pin 9 and pin 4 and 5 had data inputs, took out this ls175 and replaced with a new one.ld15.jpgld16.jpg Powered on and to my amazement.............................................................................ld40.jpgld41.jpgld42.jpgld43.jpgld44.jpg LADY BUG LIVES :D,played this for an hour and what a fantastic game, very challenging and addictive.Interesting is this boardset is identical to snap jack and cosmic avenger and i read someware that to do a conversion its a matter of programming the roms and bipolar proms.I have ordered some proms and 2732 eproms to do a conversion to cosmic avenger, never played it but would like to play it on the real hardware.

I might sell this boardset with the cosmic avenger roms fitted and together with its ladybug rom set.

Why would anyone want to convert ladybug to the craptastic scramble wannabe Cocmic Avenger? 😄😄😄
Good repair, though!

i have a ladybug and looked into this stuff years ago,
i think snap-jack has hardware differences or i probably would have done a 2 game multi with larger roms.
where are people buying bipolar roms from?

Snap jack, cosmic avenger and lady bug should run on same hardware without modification. Will do snap jack conversion in the next days.

The last couple of orders of bipolar proms I got was from the eBay seller nemoclock. Link here for his 82S123N proms. He’s in Bulgaria, postage to UK was reasonable if buying a few items from him. Postage took just over a week to arrive.

I’ve also purchased some 82S129N proms from eastring0 (In Stock Components) on eBay.

I bought 2148 srams from nemoclock and they were all new and worked well.

I burned the snap jack romset. It works just fine. So this board can be converted tonany of the 3 said games. Only 2 proms need to be changed. The 3rd one is the same on many universal games.

hell yea,
next time i see that board i'm gonna rig it for multigame :D
have to look at the proms - see if there are larger ones with the same pinout - dont want to make adapters and all that entails.

That is the hardest part. It would still be easier to make an adapter. Actualy 2 adapters since the proms are quite far apart from each other. Not sure how are they placed on the two board set.

Just finished off programming the roms and proms for cosmic avenger, powered on ............................................ca1.jpgca2.jpgca3.jpgca4.jpgca5.jpg It worked:D, considering this was a early shooter from 1981(universal) i found this game very playable and requires quite a skill to control the ship, great sounds and worth doing the rom swap.

Will be listing this boardset in the sale section soon with its ladybug romset.
