I am getting lazy in my old age got a launchbox build of ebay and I have improved it a lot. Very easy to configure. Only pain in ass is its a portable drive and have to add a USB hub as laptop stutters with dc games otherwise. Laptop is not giving enough power to the drive. I have shared the lunchbox build with some friends and they no longer use mame on their pi,s.

I use attract-mode with the default theme (simple or basic its called I think), works great on low res monitors. A lot of the flasher themes are more suited to higher resolution displays and look crap at low res.
Still needs a bit of faffing about to get the whole lot setup though.

I must admit with launchbox the drag and drop is really good as you import stuff. I have not used it but launchbox does a specific set up for cabs too.

if you need latest mame or snes /neo/pc roms etc let me know.

I have messed up and have sh*t loads of SD cards I could do with getting some money back on !!!

You can have them at cost !

I have 3 groovymame cabs. 1 vertical and 2 horizontal. All 3 are running GameEx which has a very easy wizard to setup.
For me, I don't want any bells and whistles, no wheels and video clips, just a simple list with still images and rapid simple navigation.
On my most recent build I gave AttractMode a go. Used it for a while but ultimately replaced it for GameEx. I didn't find it worked very well with my merged Romset and showing clones (it wouldn't), whereas GameEx does no problem.

Since Maximus has had no support in recent years it comes down to Launchbox for me. This is if you want the artwork and vids ect , and if in cab or joy support select then can use launchbox bigbox. I have the unlimited licence so use this.
However , if on PC and just want a nice gui then no doubt for me is Mameui64 . This is simple , great filters ect and separate screen in gui for info/ pre visuals . Easy filters for consoles , chd , working ect . Good overlay filters to play with and add.
Not a fan of hyperspin , used others but comes down to individual preferences for needs . That's why I have 2 types , one for cab and one for infront of PC.
