MisTer set up

Been thinking about getting a MisTer if only for Amiga games, but tad confused about minimum requirements. May be sacrilege but unlikely to connect to a CRT, so only need HDMI out. Passed up a great set up from Tyke due to lack of funds - think it was this one: MisTer

This looks a very comprehensive set up but I’m guessing it’s way more than I’d need for HDMI/Amiga?

Thanks for any help/advice for a noob.

Absolute minimum requirements would be a DE10 nano and an SDRAM expansion, the smallest you can buy is 32MB which is fine for the minimig core, plus a decent sized micro SD card, a good 5v PSU and an OTG USB adaptor or hub, that would get you up and running on Amiga over HDMI and also support the majority of cores.

The add on I/O boards add extra functionality like optical audio, 3.5mm audio output and input if you wanted to load games from tape, analog video output over VGA and some buttons for manually resetting the mister and accessing the menus. You might find using an OTG adaptor a pain and you can get a 7 port USB board that sits underneath but a good compromise is the new IOUSB Mini: https://www.antoniovillena.es/store/product/iousb-mini-addon/ which has 4 USB ports built in. The only downside is you can't buy a custom case for it but you can still 3D print some top and bottom plates so it's not completely bare bones.

Excellent Wiki here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki/How-to-start-with-MiSTer

I've been thinking of putting MiSTer in a "vertical classics" jamma cab, but wondered if you can lock it down so the kids can't get into the menus and mess things up. Is this possible?

Consolised MiSTer in the works, looks like a nice clean option though not a fan of the overall design of the case in terms of shape and material looks either a bit rubbery or pretty rough plastic. Costs about £140 (exc VAT and shipping) and presumably without the DE-10 board.

this thing looks as ugly as hell

i have actually priced up inividual parts and it come to about £310 with a case

the multi system without a case or NANO is £160 i think, so they are very close in terms of pricing when all is totalled up

The MiSTer MultiSystem looks like a great solution to me. It must have taken alot of time, effort and attention to detail to put this all together. If it's an even easier way for other people to get into MiSTer then I'm all for it! Looks like they've made alot of sensible decisions to make it flexible and customisable, and a few little features to make it upgradeable in the future. Good work.

Cool, Cools. Please let us know what you think of it once you’ve received it. Was a lot more expensive than I hoped, but it’s a nice clean option, was never keen on a unit with a load of wires hanging out of all over! So probably take the plunge once some reviews (and stock!) come in.

Once you tot up all the bits as separates there's not a lot of difference in overall price, plus it's pretty neat.

I just hope the 3D print isn't too rough.

i've priced up one at about £280 with an acrylic case

this all in one solution seems a lot more expensive than that

Would you mind sharing the breakdown? I must be missing something, I get a far higher figure for a stack with the same features.

I think they’re planning on setting up a dedicated channel to cover set up, from putting the system together to getting the SD card/software ready: Launch & FAQs

I’ve looked at getting parts from misterfpga.co.uk, but being a bit thick I wasn’t sure exactly what I needed, so the multisystem seems ideal for me. Probably works out more expensive, but the all-in-one board hopefully eliminates a lot of the hassle, plus as I said having to link separate boards with USB bridges/wires looks a bit naff to me.

I ordered onbe too. Just the main pcb.

I'll buy my own psu, cables and hopefully get a chance to cnc machine my own aluminium case for it.

Just need to get the 3d model of it.
