modding an xbox360

Right finally got to have a proper install of games.

Really is like a WII set up.

I had a load of games already in the right format that was an easy copy paste via an external drive formatted to fat 32. A lot of people FTP it but I am keeping a backup so no big beer. You ca plug drive in and copy paste.

I learnt there must be some file or character limit when some copies failed I renamed them and worked fine. It keeps a log of the copy and paste and out of the first batch of 40 games just two failures which I needed to redo.

Then someone asked for some cave stuff and someone had a load of originals so they did an ISO for ,e and I used a tool called ISO2god on those and they worked no problem. Really shrank them down from about 7gb to 1gb

Next thing to do is add DLC content which they safe for the cave stuff really opens it up. Have the DLC files just need to do the doing. I can not recommend getting your 360 done enoiugh. Loving it !

TBH I looked at modding it myself and as others have said the software side seems a right pain in the ass.

I was happy to pay someone else to do mine, then I just needed to get the games in the right format, and then converted some ISO's.

How else would you get to play some of these

Mine boots really fast. My brother must have a different chip as slower and does not always boot.

I've got most of them on original Xbox 360 discs but a modded xbox for back up would be good at some point.

I will just go with beaps. Got an original Xbox and wii modded by beaps and they work great

Is it easy to mod them? I really want to be able to play the now leaked Goldeneye 007 on mine.

The chip that stays on the console looks an easy fit, the other a little harder, but it's trying to find the good xecutor version that's harder too as it out of stock when I've found it.

If I found someone to do it for a sensible price I might pay, the main chip is only a fiver, the other a chunk more, but that doesn't stay in the machine so has re-use (from what I've read up).

Got a 360 to VGA lead off eBay and I've got my old Xenon 360 up and running - it's on Dash 67xx so it's a straightforward JTAG and a couple of diodes to mod.

I have a JRP and the leads so will hack it this week - just so I can play GoldenEye on it....

Might pop the X-Clamp off and apply some artic-silver while It's in bits...

Xenon yikes, lets hope it lasts long enough for you to try goldeneye.

With RROD it got to the point where I wouldn't buy 360s unless they were jaspers or slims.

I've got a black jasper some where I'll have to try goldeneye if the dash isn't too old, wouldn't even know how to update it as it was pre reset glitch.

There is one xbox model that runs with a smaller power brick. Thats only bit that pisses me off the size of the brick..

I dont suppose anyone has a copy of the packs that used to have all the dlc stuff in.

I have the cave DLC but not COD etc.

Can someone pm me a link to golden eye stuff please ?

fat32 as a size limit of 4gb and text of i believe 8+3 characters, but yeah just easier to rename a game shorter. You can use an external drive on 360 to play games from ( dont need to stick on internal if tou dont wont to ) but iso2god is a God send for stripping games down in size some or if not all the shootings are tiny in size really. pretty sure there are a couple that are just 100meg..

I just wish there was a program akin to the one on PS3 called pgkj which resides on dashboard it literally gives you all the games at click of a button just goes and gets them for you and install is a breeze ( ps vita has same one ) all games on tap even latest still getting released stuff.

Dos was an operating system, fat32 is a filesystem so technically character length counts ( dos used fat16 btw )

im not exactly sure on xbox360 filesystem character lenghts, it could be 21 characters. It threw out a couple of games i tried to transfer once or twice as there was too many. And the xbox depth of directorys will just be 1.

Yeah, I was being simple about it, but in general usage the limitations ended after DOS.

I just renamed them.

I found the easiest thing to do was run a big copy. Let the sod fail.

REBOOT XBOX, very important as log file is locked otherwise.

Take a copy of the BACKUP log file and read it on your laptop.

Look for error 123 and out the 150 games had just 4 games fail.

All were long names, so just renames and copied the 4 over. Was stuff like red redemption game of the year {disk1 ) etc etc !!!

Having fun with DLC content for cave at the moment . Tutorials seem to differ from real life !!
