Just got message from guy asking how I get around ebay rules on selling car parts, er what rules I thought?

message someone else got searching internet
We would like to take the opportunity to share some very important information with you regarding Environmental Permitting Regulations. This regulation applies to all businesses, as well as private sellers who are selling used vehicle parts:
  • If you are dismantling vehicles yourself, you must have a permit to do so and display the permit number in your item description. If you do not have a permit, you are operating illegally.
  • If you are not breaking vehicles yourself, you must obtain these from a verified source that has a permit to depollute and dismantle end of life vehicles.
We are asking you to familiarise yourself with the regulations and to end any of your listings that are not compliant with the above requirements. Please note that your eBay account is at risk if you fail to comply

So you need licence to sell Fruit Machines, Pushers etc yet loads for sale without licence

You need to be Business seller to list medical stuff yet loads private sellers

You can't sell car parts without a licence yet 1000's do

You can't sell Digitally Delivered Goods but 1000's do

You can't post Spray Paint yet 1000's sell on ebay and post

What a joke :ROFLMAO:

2 Tier Kier gotta get some pennies from somewhere now he is not taxing us hard working people. Oh hang on he is ?

As an additional have you noticed that Ebay are not auto transferring money to your bank ?? They are trying to get you to ' Add it to your ebay credit ' - Muppets. You have to go in and say ' Yes I will have the money for the item I just sold please '

Seems this has been the case for a good few years as well

So as it says "If you are dismantling vehicles yourself, you must have a permit to do so and display the permit number in your item description. If you do not have a permit, you are operating illegally"

Well you could be selling parts but that doesn't mean you dismantled a car, you could of bought a job lot of parts from someone that did and had a licence to dismantle but if you only wanted some of them and selling what you didn't need

oh well another stupid rule to ignore

Today I couldn't even log into my ebay, normally it sends me stupid voice text to landline as I refuse to play along with them forcing everyone to have mobile numbers but today I didn't get the call with code so had to do email nonsense instead

Apparently you can turn off the pathetic 2 step crap but you need to add a mobile number before you can opt out of it, what tossers they are

Rant over and back to sorting machines lol

It's all gonna keep getting worse

I tried to use money in mine to buy something and wouldn't work, said select payment but greyed out, still don't know how this new system works, wish I didn't have anything to sell save the hassle with ebay

People have had e-mails from 2021, so it's Pound-shop Trump era or earlier.

I can see the point in environmental regs to stop the sort that break multiple cars on their driveway for a cash-in-hand side business, dumping stuff in drains etc.

If there's a problem here, it's that there's no grey area that I can see - looks like you simply can't sell used car parts as a private individual, eBay or anywhere else.

So I guess you just ignore it and hope you'll not be the one to get flagged up (which I guess you likely won't for the odd item).

First I've heard of this. My previous car died in the garage so it was handed to them to cover costs which were more than the part-ex value of a newly non running vehicle.
Now I've got a bunch of parts for that particular model of car that I plan to sell on - surely I don't need an environmental license to stop me er... putting them in the local landfill?

Link to this in 2021 on Pistonheads site

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...d-ebay-crack-down-on-illegal-vehicle-breakers

Anyway the guy replied to me and he has spoken to eBay with a few emails back and forth and part of his reply below

I completely understand wanting to clear space and make use of valuable parts you’ve saved over the years. To clarify, there is no permit required to sell used car parts as a private seller on eBay. You can certainly list the parts you’ve gathered over the years, whether they’re from your own vehicle or items you’ve stored for personal use.

:confused::LOL: Bonkers World

So it's more a crackdown on the people that are constantly dismantling cars without a licence not just you owned a car and you could sell it for more in bits than a whole, Look at the areas targeted too, west midlands, Yorkshire, Lancashire so no surprise there then

Thing is some people complain they have been targeted by ebay when they are probably selling parts from 20 different cars but say private when clearly a business, I've scrapped 3 cars and 2 of the shells went to scrap yard, one I just wanted the leather seats from as I couldn't by seperate, I drove a Civic to test out the engine/MPG before MOT ran out and then put the engine in mine and wanted another engine to replace knackered one in CRX which I couldn't find to buy plus if you buy a car you can see it running and know it's good before removing plus you can get most of your money back selling all the parts off it so it costs you less, just the time and hassle

There was a guy selling commodore/spectrum games and every listing was slating ebay and he now has to charge more for the games because ebay said he's a business seller but claims he was only selling his collection, you have to have a serious collection if you selling 1000's of items and ebay force you to become a business, never been hassled about being business
