This is my first post, sorry if I’ve missed already written guides etc. Please feel free to point me to them.
I’m trying to build my first cabinet (or buy). I loved arcade stuff growing up but never had money or time to spent more time on my own setup until now.
When I tried buying 1uparcade machine about a year ago, I was really disappointed about quality, build, how bad the controller was etc. I understand now they are a budget mainstream cabinets. Now I have budget and time. I checked out some vendors like Bespoke Arades while looking nice they seem to be overcharging at x2 - x3 level which is insane. I’m ex developer so I’m comfortable with technical / software side of things (though not played that much around emulation software).
Here is what I want to do and want to get some guidance, (I’m in the UK)
I‘m planning to buy an actual retro blank cabinet off of EBay or something, put a mini PC behind possibly running Linux, good screen, good controllers and then hook it all together. I have time and the budget, how would I go ahead and work on this? Any good places to find these cabinets other than EBay, should I know anything else before starting? Is it straight forward to put controllers into these arcade cabinets? Or any other thing helps.
I hope to make a hobby out of this, and maybe even start collecting different cabinets.
