To some extent yes, but eventually I realized that it's better to just follow a few guidelines. European monitors (Hantarex, Intervideo, Semio, etc.) all use tubes that were also used in TVs of the same period, especially the Italian ones (Seleco, Mivar, etc.) and almost all other TVs have tubes that are compatible with them. The problem comes when you look for tubes that are compatible with early 80s US chassis like Electrohome G07, Wells Gardner K4900 and others that have high impedance vertical coils or with Japanese chassis that have odd yokes like Nanao MS8-26. For this and other reasons hoping to find drop-in replacement tubes in old TVs is going to be a waste of time (and money). But for European monitors it's dead easy once you get the hang of it.

I wrote mine down, I haven't opened quite as many as MKL though!

I agree, the older ones are difficult to find. I thought i'd found an MS8-26 replacement in an old wooden case Mitsubishi tv but one winding wasn't high enough impedance if I remember correctly. Still wrote it down though I think.

I've noticed that there seemed to be more TV's in Europe with drop in replacement tubes than over here in the UK. I've seen that "Old Obsolete Telly" website and there seems to be a lot more makes like Nokia and Loewe elsewhere in Europe who appears to have used identical tubes as arcade monitors.

I you feel like sharing then feel free :)

I have bought and opened about 6-8 20" TVs and ALL where Hantarex candidates. Appx. 2,0-2,6 and 12-14 Ohm.

That's probably the most difficult case for a tube swap, especially in Europe because 26" TVs stopped being made after 1987 so even finding a tube without yoke of the right size is pretty hard and in any case it will not be recent. Then you have the yoke specs: the MS8 has a low impedence horizontal coil (~0.3ohm/0.4mH) and a high impedance vertical coil (~37ohm/83mH). TV tubes that would match the H coil can only be found in 100Hz TVs but those will never be the right size and have a matching vertical yoke. The closest thing I know of is the A67-711X Videocolor tube (found for instance in Nordmende Spectra TVs) that is the right size and has a vertical coil of ~38ohm/100mH which may be a match for the Nanao V coil but the H coil unfortunately is the usual 1.5ohm/1.5mH of standard TVs. Perhaps it's possible to use an impedance adapter like those on the Semio Pico multi-impedance chassis to lower the impedance to the correct levels. It's something I plan to try some day.

Yes. The situation is a bit more complicated in the 25"-28"-29" range as there are 100Hz models that have a low impedance horizontal yoke (~0.5ohm/0.3mH) and these can't be used with 15KHz chassis. A quick way to see if a TV is 100Hz or not is to search the model in the HR Diemen page and look in the Flyback replacement scheme page what tester is needed for the flyback. For instance a Philips 25PT5105-00 uses HR8419 whose tester is the STVDST-01 which is 15KHz:

http://www.hrdiemen.com/reparation/flyback/scheme/8419

Whereas a Loewe Profil 3563 Z uses HR8421 whose tester is the SMONDST-32KHZ which is 31KHz (32 is the same as 31):

http://www.hrdiemen.com/reparation/flyback/scheme/8421

Tubes of 100Hz TVs aren't useless though, they're used for monitors that can do 31KHz which means also 15-25-31KHz and 31-35-38KHz like Hantarex Polo Star trisync and SVGA.
