Seems like crazy SNK is back in full swing - they've now announced a 'next gen NeoGeo' that will apparently interface with the NeoGeo mini in some way.

There honestly isn't any more detail than that.

Not sure what to think of it to be truthful. Will it be a 'new' retro console? Surely it can't be a genuine next gen console?

Or a home version of the NG64

The clicky stick of the NGPC was pretty great. Such a great handheld for fighters, unmatched.

Actually, I'm guessing it will be a portable version of the Mini. Not sure how that would 'link' with the mini though? Maybe you expand the catalogue of the Mini via the portable device?

I heard rumours months ago that they announced during a corporate meeting of some sort that they had plans to release a new stand alone console and hand held.

So I HOPE that they make something cool and new, But its not the SNK of old so who knows.

By all accounts the new SNK is seeing a resurgence - the last Sam Sho game has been getting good reviews. That's off the back of several decent to good games too.

Of course that doesn't automatically translate in to good or well supported hardware, but let's be honest - the old SNK's track record wasn't faultless either. I just hope it is something more than a other 'mini' console.

Alright, so 'next-gen' may have been a bit of an overstatement: https://www.snk-corp.co.jp/us/press/2019/091003/

But it's actually kind of cool; as well as the 20 pre-installed fighters and HDMI out it has a PC mode w/USB so you can use it as a normal joystick. That means you could use it on your AES with an adapter Mark!

Makes it a more interesting proposition for me than the mini.

TBH when it was mentioned that it would interface with the NeoGeo Mini, I couldn't see it being anything more than what this is.... Just the same old, same old repackaged in a new design
