Was saying the other day about when I played Last Ninja 1 and 2 on C64 as 2 of not many i completed because i liked them so much

Do i remember right that you couldn't save the game?

Surely when home from school and when trying to crack level 6 i didnt have to go through all 5 levels every day single day, seem to remember leaving on while had dinner

If thats what you did, i dont know how i had patience to do it, seriously dont

You're not wrong. We endured because that's all we had and all we knew. And we enjoyed it too! A lot of those games haven't aged at all well, and it's not just coz swipe devices have murdered our attention spans. Sometimes it's best to leave these things where they belong... in our memories :-(

I remember leaving my mates borrowed speccy on all night because we'd poked infinite lives into JSW and we were afraid that we wouldnt be able to do it again. Fortunately, I didn't die in a house fire.

Lol. Shouldn't laugh. These things happened in those days. Remember when there were hardly any appliances to plug in? My parents had a nightly ritual of switching off the TV etc.at the wall. Imagine doing that now. You wouldn't be finished until it was time to get up.

thats true mate

wasnt just my parents then and they still do it now with most stuff

Mind you if like my dad, you had to throw the B/W TV out the front window because its set on fire it wouldn't install much confidence in leaving all your electrical items plugged in all night

When they bought a vhs guy at shop told us you needed to leave it plugged in because has cooling fan or something stupid, me dad unplugged it every night though and happy to keep setting clock every day, even microwave only plugged in when they use itBods2021-09-30 06:52:10

It is a shock when you first see them after so many years but you soon get back in the zone and start to enjoy them

Ive never been brilliant at games, remember Cauldron 1 and 2, firstly trying to play on the old Ferguson b/w tv didnt help when you had colour keys for colour doors but i struggled to get from cottage out woods and flying so when lad at school said he completed it i thought he must be lying, even when i did get in a door i was hopeless at jumping

I sometimes spent hours typing in pokes from zzap only to find it didnt work, didnt know about freeze things to use those type pokes, then i had idea, type pokes in and save it to tape, so had pokes tape with counter digits next to game name, then started working through lines comparing with others and would change some commers etc and get them working, most where just typo errors in mags

Still cant believe i had to go through all the levels each day, i must of had a lot more patience then lol

I did get mad with it when game didnt load though and punched tape deck, then gutted having broke tape counter

I'd still like to go through last ninja 1 and 2 again and have played it a bit over past years, no problem getting to 2nd level but to complete it all think i'll have to cheat with unlimited lives as i couldn't be bothered to go through it over and over again

Still never played 3rd one though, got 1000s of c64 original tapes and discs now, hardly had any originals before and must of sold it for amiga before 3 out

Quite a number of years back i sorted partner one for Xmas, Christmas compendium c64, she always wanted one when younger but never got one, we had go on short circuit, could never work out what to do on it years back and was first time we got out first screen

it helps having original tapes with instructions

Worth putting games on for music alone though

If you had an action replay cart & a disk drive you could save your progress & re-load another time from that point. Cant remember any games that allowed you to save progress though......

I'm an electricians son so i get the 'switching everything off at night thing.' Appliances are much safer nowadays but back in the 70s/80s i remember some of em getting really hot. I remember our xmas tree lightbulbs used to get hot to the touch. My folks used to switch them off at night then hang around for half an hour or so just to make sure nothing caught fire!
