OLD SCHOOL …old tool .. job done!

Not used my old 200W soldering iron for decades .. but I don’t chuck things away!
Today it came into action on a fragile job .

A Cat or squirrel had snapped one of the wife’s outdoor 30 metre fine wire solar light strings which at night turn our rear garden into a second Blackpool illumination zone.

Heats up in about 10 minutes but stays hot enough even in a cold breezy garden for about 15 minutes not plugged in (mobile) so able to repair the broken wire… This baby melts any tough psu rectifier pads or ground rails on CRTs.

Add edit ::: 2nd picture now night 30 meters of fence top left .. colour light string lit after repair today. Wife like solar garden lights …Happy wife , made a rewarding apple crumble for tea desert , we freeze some of our own apples for that treat 😁😁

Love it, you cannot beat vintage tools, built to last. If I ever need to buy tools, especially workshop tools, I always buy used vintage like the British made Vices made by ' Record ' etc as opposed to new, cheap junk.

Very true the iron was my dads (don’t know why he never fixed anything so inherited it 1975) and with its woven flex cord and originally fitted with a round Wylex plug , popular post war till the sixties….

The Record vice also has history.. The wife frowned as it was an Engagement / up coming wedding gift brand new in late 1977 from the then owner of Oulton Park Race track in Cheshire….much used and much cherished it’s done 48 years of tough work and I certainly remember him for it!

I think a lot of my tools over the years can generate interesting conversation? My quality Elora socket set was in the boot of my mk2 ford Cortina in the mid 70s , when I holidayed with a mate to Devon .. we bought some local famous “Scrumpy” cider in gallon plastic flagons and one lid leaked.

It took most of the enamelled blue paint off the metal socket case … better than industrial paint stripper …. Not sure if we trusted drinking it when we got home??? 😜 and we could smell it for weeks in the car too!

You older gents always have cool stories to tell, I love all of that stuff, my Dad was the same.

I inherited a vintage Elora socket set from my Dad when he passed on in the same metal socket case you mention although the Scrumpy hasn't attacked this one!

Not surprised to hear your Vice is still going after 48 years, what a superb gift to receive. Much more exciting than a Cutlery Set!

My dads got a really old solering Iron still I bet, it's fairly big not sure the wattage but it's not that big, that's a beauty
