We went in Sainsbury's last Christmas to spend some vouchers the other half had, they had some big Metal Tins of quality street the prices were insane 20-25 or something daft, we looked at most of the things and I was just horrified at it all, I've cut out buying most of it now just can't hand over my money to them

When the 3D movies made a comeback in the 80s I remember the Radio and TV Times advertising free 3D glasses with it, my dad wouldnt buy it though and I was desperate to see some of the 3D stuff they were going to show, for some reason at junior school we made stuff from dried pasta o_O and they had all sorts of stuff for projects some being old quality street wrappers so I took the some to try and make my own 3d glasses which I cut out some cardboard and stapled together with the wrappers in each side, think I had Red but couldnt get blue so had anything that was closest to blue, it did work a bit and by time we got the quailty streets that christmas so I could probably make them work it was too late lol, we did'nt have VHS Recorder till probably 85/86 and appartently this was all in early Dec 1982 though I thought they showed a better film than 1953 American Western Fort Ti

That started me off with the whole 3D stuff along with the View Masters and Scooby Doo Reels. I was watching Crystal Lake Memories Bluray Sat Night as my eye was much better and when they got to part 3 Friday 13th 3D (August 1982) it was the first of the 3D comeback movies in the 80s and what probably started this off on the TV I guess, then Jaws 3D which was worst movie of the 4 in July 83 and Amityville 3D in November
Shame they hadn't done one of the Ghostbusters in 3D or one of the Elm Streets I know you have the ending in 3D on Freddy's Dead but they haven't even done that on the BluRays yet

I've watched all of those in BluRay 3d, the Friday 13th I originally bought DVD 3D and the cool titles that come out the screen I couldn't wait to see that as it was at cinema only for the 3D to start after the titles  that really annoyed me so when they finally released the Bluray set with Bluray 3D of it I bought that one for about £150 with the poster, got the 3D soundtrack LP too and think I bought a poster off ebay

Not watched Creature From The Black Lagoon yet or Dial M For Murder, have seen 1953 House Of Wax

These guys have been doing some really good work on 3D
I bought the original House On Haunted Hill on DVD and Bluray from them

I can remember that early 80s 3D tv stuff. Fighting with my brothers and sisters who's turn it is to look through the 3D glasses.
Also remember fishing for bream and roach at Limehouse Basin Dock and there was a big Jaws3D billboard cinema poster next to the docklands light railway. Aaaahh memories.

Yeah the chocolate's not the same, and there aren't enough green triangles ...and the barrels don't have special wrapping anymore.

My wife bought a few tubs as they were cheap, to stash away before the Christmas rush.

They've already been un-stashed and eaten, and it's still the middle of October.
Haha, I've done it so many times 🤦🏻‍♂️ Good luck with the replacements, and the replacements after those.

Naughty, eating the Christmas stock! 🌲😇😱
Was you one of those children who felt their presents before Christmas! I was from the other camp. I always wanted a surprise present unless i already knew what someone was getting me! 😂😂

To be fair, £1 per 100g isn't bad. They were £5-7 in the 80s, so the equivalent price when factoring inflation. They were then treated as a special one-off that'd last a long time. The little 600g tubs, currently £4 at Tesco, are insanely cheap per gram. They get opened and demolished.

The big tin option's still available and it costs about the same hours at work now as it used to. They cost a lot less if valuing in beer tokens. Just interesting to know as the size of the tins is often brought up as a rip off conspiracy. It's more that customers have shown they'd rather buy a small cheap tub, shove it down and then buy another, creating a mass of plastic waste in the process.

Anyway, I know what you mean about the Christmas supermarket experience being horrifying.

When you look at it like £1 per 100g then yes that's not too bad, I couldn't have told you what a 2kg tin was in 80s or what the Tin size was year, wether Roses or Quality St last year or exact price or prices now as I don't look, shop at aldi/Lidl myself, Sainsbury's prices were just crazy last November on most items we looked out that's all I remember and i'd never shop in Asda, Sainsbury's or Tesco these days

Yes the main gripe with it all now is more the inferior products for the prices charged and then Privacy Tax if you don't use there apps
Sainsbury's did not stock a 2kg tin of Quality Street; standard large festive offerings at Sainsbury's for Quality Street were the 550g tubs (priced around £3.95 to £7.00 depending on Nectar card promotions) and limited-edition 750g tins (priced at £13.00 or £10.50 with a Nectar card), while 2.kg bulk boxes were sold by other retailers like Amazon or Costco.

That's not bad at Costco if you still like the products

I just googled the retail price on 1950s & 1970s nearly six inch deep tins hardly changed size in 20 years… but it’s not specifically catalogued? Guessing about 12s6d. ( 62.5p) ? Weight reduced from 6lbs to 5.5lbs (2.5kg). I don’t recall what the 70s one , I bought cost either but possibly about one pound?? Or less?

The newer tin one great for storing volume pots, fuse banks, bulb holders, credit switches, in fact alsorts of junk bits… I forgot what was in it????

The old 6lb tin … my mum stored buttons, zips and cottons in it until her death 2002. I remember I used to sit on it to watch tv when I was about 5 years old, pre 1960 …… it must have been worth forfeiting the 3/- three shillings (now 15p) deposit to have such a useful store tin? A fair refund in the 1950s … us kids got 3d deposit back on pop bottles so 1 tin = 12 bottles (empty) but probably had to go to Woolworths or M&S shop who sold them tins.

It’s empty just now and just seen they fetch over £20 on eBay ? ….. you don’t get that for any of the new shrunken plastic ones!!
Not great for storage either (too shallow)

The Allwin looks great :)
My Dad's mate wanted an Allwin machine, was looking for one cheap to do up but don't think he ever got one, he mad busy with 3D printing now, he's always had loads of hobby's like making a RC Jet Plane, it's a shame we still haven't got the plane he made that flew around a pole in the garden and the big control panel he did with loads of buttons, controls made loads of noises, we had great fun with it, not sure where that went

We don't worry about ood stuff, I'd eat them if they taste okay :)

I don't consider myself a chocolate connoisseur, or know what palm oil tastes of, but I do think 'bloody hell, that's a bit sickly' with Roses, Quality Street etc.
Still eat too many though
Plus a lot of them taste the same now. Years back you could really tell the orange from say the strawberry etc.
Now i can channel a load in they taste samey and textures as well, which they never used to be.
No it's not that we're older and our taste buds are different blah blah.
Give us back our Christmas Roses and Quality Streets.
