Re: [ukvac] Re: [OT] xbox mame
For what it's worth I agree. Seemed a bit heavy handed and there's no need
for anyone to get abusive. As a new reader of this list I also found the
MAME stuff some of the most interesting posts. Respect to the hardcore
original machine purists out there, but many of us are interested collecting
*and related stuff*. I get the point that this is a list for collecting
original machines and you don't want other deviations to swamp you - however
the only time I got swamped was when the flaming started!!

I think a wider readership is a good idea, and its better for the value of
your cabs. :) Let's get a bit inclusive here.

Have a good Xmas all! Til next year...
Lawrence

Re: [ukvac] Re: [OT] xbox mame
apology accepted, now take console talk off-list.

the list is going downhill.

this list is about COLLECTING VIDEO ARCADE MACHINES

not BUILDING SHITE MAME CABS

i want the real thing, and this is why everyones on here..... so you can
understand that NON arcade related chat is not tolerated.

we want to play THE REAL THING, not a hacked up xbox shite. in fact, we
tolerate other types of talk, but talking about something on this list that
goes against the WHOLE idea of this list is hated more than anything.

imagine you had a kit car rolls-royce, and you went onto a mailing list for
RR owners, and all you wanted to talk about was your cheap crappy knock-off?

there are enough dumbasses out there converting all manner of cabs and i'm
sure you can contact these people and warble on for days about it, just
don't warble in here and act all shitty when you are asked to shut up :)

just my two penneth worth.. this list has turned to poop as people tak abotu
whatever the hell they want.

flibbedy jibbedy fnaaar shhroop! wingle bargboom lallymandalay.

then you are focussed on a 'different' aim.

hahahahhaahhaha

MAME is so prevelant, there's no chance of the rom images ever dissapearing
off the face of the earth.

you're missing the point. We collect REAL old machines, not MAME roms.

if you feel the need to play substandard copies in generic cabinets then go
ahead, but you're on the wrong list, mame satisfies the needs of the many,
but this list is for the few who want to have the original cabinet, and play
the games how they were meant to be played, with the weird control panel
layouts, the ambient lighting, the special effects that you do NOT get in
mame. This is an ideological difference between people who think MAME is
only useful as a debug tool, but not to play the real things.

an xbox in a cab will never be considered anything but what it intrinsically
is, a console in a larger box.

> My two pennies and I'm keen to leave the subject at that :)

well i must add something to that, see above, and consider the matter closed
:)

Re: [ukvac] Re: [OT] xbox mame
for the record, guddler has misplaced ideas about Game On. the exhibition
had a mame projection, and it was being exhibited as a mame projection.

All other arcade machines were running original hardware, no emulators.

The home computers section had 2 emulators, for the c64 and spectrum, this
was because you can't have a keyboard full of keys available to the public
indiscriminantly.

Don't knock game on, that subject is too dear to my heart.

As for the rest... go piss in the wind is all i say. Those that were on this
list from the early early days know why we're on here, and occasionally we
have to moan because its been taken over buy a bunch of mame kiddiez who do
as they please, disregarding the whole ethos of the ukvac idea. A mailing
list that caters specifically for collectors of real old arcade machines is
what this list is, a 'how to build a fuckwit-mame cab in 60 seconds' it is
not, and thats not just an OT moan, thats a moan for swebb who had the cheek
to come back with a pithy comment like that.

Good point, but I don't think there's anyone left on those groups. They've
all left to join ukvac...

[GRIN]

only joking just in case that wasn't clear :)
