Hi All,

I bought an original Xbox about 18 months ago from ebay for £40 fully boxed with one controller - all in great condition

  • I then got a copy of Outrun 2 (my favourite driving game - better than Coast to Coast too)
  • I then got an original Xbox component cable from the US (took me 6 months to find one)
  • I then got my Xbox soft-modded by "beaps" from this forum so I can set it to NTSC.
  • This then allows you to select in the "settings" and then in the "video" mode the option for 480p, 720p and 1080i.
  • If you select "yes" to all three options then you will get a much clearer picture than standard on a modern HD TV (I have a four year old 32" Samsung HD TV).
  • Short of buying the actual arcade unit (which I don't have the money or space for) this is about as good as it gets for me !!!
How is your set up please (if you have the Outrun 2 bug) and can you offer any further advice !

Cheers all

Mark

Out of interest, why do you prefer the original over Coast to Coast?
Certainly from an arcade point of view, SP has both sets of courses, the slipstreaming and a little less forgiving gameplay from collisions. I think some people believe Coast to Coast is visually worse on console but can’t say I’ve ever looked into it enough.

I’d like to get hold of the Japanese PS2 OR2 one day as AM2 did some revisions to it.

I'm happy with the pc version in my driving cab, for me it's the epitome of arcade deriving games, pure fun.

I love how easy it is to put your own audio in to replace the tracks it's great fun outrunning to your favourite tunes.

Got 2 Sega driving cabs which hopefully one day I will finish so it's an outrun 2 SP twin looking machine to be in keeping with rest of the machines, running Coast 2 Coast on PC in the linked.

They are playable now with 5.2 sound, original Seat subwoofer and also the original sub from the Dell speakers in base of machine for some extra punch. Still need to add a few things, paint it up and add artwork

I have a Chihiro board to put in Initial D machine if I want to play original version but still need a copy of game or use the Pi to load it

Hi Jonathan - I prefer OR2 over C2C as it was the first and original and the it just feels more responsive to play. There is also a graphical "blooming" effect on C2C which I don't like.

Any more comments please?

Cheers

The Xbox port is awesome! I played it loads back in the day. If you want perfect though I'd recommend trying the PC version. It's Coast to Coast but I don't remember a blooming effect. It works with a 360 controller and I'm sure I read that, because of having more memory to play with, all textures are uncompressed and so identical to the arcade (unlike the Xbox version). It supports higher resolutions too and still looks incredible. I certainly can't see (or feel) any difference between it and the arcade version.

Kudos must go to the PSP version as well. What a port that was!

What about some Comparison videos on youtube

Doesn't the Xbox version have the same intro as arcade version?

That's the one thing I wish the PC version had, so in a Sega cab it looks like the arcade is running, just looking at video of a twin, the haven't done like they did on Sega Rally where the game goes over both screens, that always looked cool

They never made any decent Steering wheels for Xbox did they? that puts me off old consoles

Oh and the fact they couldn't even bother to add force feedback on C2C is a real let down but there are lots of work been done to add the arcade feel to C2C

What about Outrun 2 FXT

Loves a bit of Outrun 2 and C2C !

I had an old Sega driving cab years ago and put an Xbox in to play Outrun 2, hacked a logitech wheel up to the Sega controls and it worked really well...

ATM though I have a twin Sega Rally cab running PC's and its got Outrun C2C in running some of the FXT mods, this has the Xbox intro I think ?

Actually, come to think of it I haven't played it this yet this year so I'm off for a quick lap

second cab I owned was an old stand up driving cab that I put a ps2 and coast to coast in joypad hacked to the happ cab controls
it played really well for what it was with the spring feed back of the happ wheel

broke the cab because I had no space at the time and nobody wanted it
couldn't be arsed with e bay

I thought the only differences with or2 and c2c was more cars
I will have to hunt the other games down now robotech2018-01-27 00:30:18

Ive linked my two machines with outrun c2c but was having issues. It may be that cables are wrong. Need to recheck which cable i used when link 2 pc together with network cable

Think i used straight through cable so one side would go blank or something it was saying connected and then loose it so need to retry with crossover ethernet as thats whats needed for pc to pc

Its just in settings then in game, setup network play and should have master and slave or player 1 and 2

Ive got some tools now and connectors so i can make up crossover cable

Hi All,

I played this again last night and getting the Xbox modded so you can get NTSC then enables you to play it in HD and the results are certainly noticeble albeit at 480p. This is a great game and to call it a conversion is not doing it justice as you are in effect running the arcade game on you Xbox ! The original controllers are also fantastic and the vibration effect it certainly better than the Xbox 360 or Xbox One controllers.

Cheers

Mark

If only the Home Computer/Consoles were like that in the 80's

Was a long wait to get the original Arcades but one that was well worth it

Hi - just out of curiousity is the PC emulated version as good as the Xbox version or is it just running in a higher screen resolution?
