Wow, nice job man!
It's amazing to see just how many people on this forum are good at woodwork.

Thanks mate. Another place that sells Pac-Man parts is Mike's Arcade. I got my 6x9 speaker, grille and bolts from there.

Also, there are a few NOS CP overlays floating around if you can't salvage the one that you have there. I managed to get one on eBay for an okish price.

Good luck with this, mate. I will be keeping a keen eye on this thread. I love me some Pac-Man cabaret action.

Just read through the thread and echo what has already been said;

1. Real Kudos for tackling this and trying to save a really cool cabinet/game.
2. Good luck (you may need a healthy dose)
3. Looking forward to seeing it progress
4. Scariest mould I've seen for a good while!!

Hmm, I think I need to buy some face masks like PAC-MAN wears when he is spraying his cabs.

Looking at what you're working with I'd say that would be a very good idea!!

I've seen similar condition cabs brought back to mint, so I have high hopes for this one

Really pleased you got this, you deserved a nice find after what happened with that last deal.

What's great about these cabs is pretty much every single part is available

Thanks mate.

Sad to miss out on that Naomi, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.
Thinking about it, I'd rather have this than the Naomi. I'll get a candy cab one of the days, no rush for now though.

The characters on the CP look good nick, Johnsarcade
restored one of these and he liquid masked off the characters and
resprayed the black, might be worth looking into. Always a good feeling
to save as much original stuff as poss.

how is the cab structurally?

There are a couple of blemishes on the CP charas but I'd be happy to try and touch them up, I'm gonna try that liquid mask method to try and save them as John had great results. I've watched/flicked through all 9 parts of his resto, really enjoyed watching that. The one thing I'm kinda reluctant to do is replace the vinyl, although there are a few knocks on this one, the finish looks neater than the vinyl he used.

I haven't had a real close inspection due to the mold mate, but the sides look pretty good apart from near the bottom. There is a bit of swelling, not too much on first glances but I need to inspect it further.

The base seem spongy and doesn't have much strength to it, the board the PSU's and fuse block holders sit on is in 3 pieces.

Oh and thanks for everyone pointing out that white stuff is mold, I really thought it was fire extinguisher powder!

I'll be using a mask to do the rest....yeah I did some of it and breathed in heaven knows what.

And thanks for all the encouragement guys.

I hope I can do a decent job as this will look nice in the living room next to my dresser.

Cheers.

I've been working late shifts recently so unfortunately I've had no time to work on the cab.
The Neji-Saurus pliers arrived yesterday, so I was eager to give them a test run.

I would recommend these to anyone working with rounded or rusted screws. They don't perform miracles like removing badly rusted screws which are basically welded to other rusted metalwork, but they do remove a vast majority of screws that are too far gone to use normal methods of removal. The ones they didn't remove they snapped the head off leaving the thread inside the wood.

Anyway, I've just finished the first clean of the insides, man I feel so dirty now....and yes I did wear a mask! I'll give it another clean once it's dried a bit. To get it this clean took almost a full container of Domestos bleach spray which I bought from poundland.

I still need to remove the coin door which may be a bit problematic due to the rust, but it's looking a lot cleaner now. I'm also more optimistic that the base can be saved which will save a lot of messing around fitting a new base etc. I may go down the route another forum member went down by simply fixing an extra piece of wood to the base to strengthen things.

Now to clean myself and the place up a bit......

Thanks.

Look loads better already. You could try giving the rusted bolts a good dose of prenetrating fluid/oil and let it soak in for a while. Think you can use WD-40 for this.

Bleach & mould & mildew remover work wonders on grotty cabs, as does Cillit bang.

Add latex gloves to the list of essential cab clean-up gear...

Thanks guys, I've never cleaned anything as grim as this cab.

The starter motor on my car failed on Sunday, so have had to pay to get that fixed so I haven't been able to buy anything for the electrics just yet. I did buy some Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener today, so when I have some free time I'll see if that stuff can help harden up the soft wood on the base.

I tried WD-40 but most screws and bolts were completely seized mate, they just crumbled to rust dust when trying to unscrew them. The Neji-Saurus pliers are really good though, a couple of screws which I thought were too far gone actually could be removed. I can't recommend them enough.

The bolts on the coin door surround have completely seized and will have
to be grinded down I think. I may need to buy a grinder but will try my
dremmel and cutting discs first.

Hopefully I'll have another small update soon, I don't think the base hasn't dried out fully yet.

Cheers.

Back to the Pac......I can't believe nearly 2 years has passed!
smiley36.gif

The monitor was recently serviced, I bought some bits off Ian Kellogg ages ago and Terminator2k (Chris) was kind enough to fit the parts for me as I didn't trust my soldering skills on such an old chassis.

Ian_K.jpg

It's had a new capkit, flyback, hot, fuses etc. Hopefully when it comes time to test it there won't be any problems.

PAC_G07.jpg

Hopefully it's not another 2 years before I get around to working on it again!

Cheers.

Nice one mate, good to make some progress on this one and now you know the monitor is as fresh as it can be. Must be weird to work on such a small cab and one that doesn't have a steering wheel!!
smiley17.gif

Long gap between updates, you're trying to compete with me in the time taken to do a resto
smiley36.gif

I will have some updates to share on my Japanese OR2 this week though..

It's nice to work on a cab where moving the monitor doesn't mean breaking my back!
smiley36.gif

The bits for this cab is in various boxes which is taking too much space, I should have started a Scud Race project but can't move for arcade tat in boxes everywhere!

Hopefully it doesn't take me as long as your current longest resto world record.

I thought a fire extinguisher had been let off in the cab when I first seen it!
smiley36.gif

Well I hope I didn't breath much of it in, I did use a mask when cleaning most of it but at the beginning....I feel OK, I think....I'm not gonna get paranoid about every cough and splutter, I probably breathe worse stuff in from the traffic smog.
smiley36.gif

Thanks.
