Hi all.

I have a mamed sege sitdown. For years the pc has just sat outside it. I an ideal world id decase it and put it inside the base. Gonna be quite tight sk am i just gonna cook my pc. Or should i try and concoct some sort of elaborate fan venting system. Or is it just a recipe for disaster?

Any clever people have any suggestions? Its a mediu. Zoec quad core i5 with a reasonable gfx card.

Im all ears....

My Twin has PC boards inside the bases

I connected up 2 fans where the original ones go at each end, you can do one pulling air in and one out if you want so it's flowing air right through the base

No issues like that, depends on the PC as well, some run hotter than others don't they but there is more space than in a PC case anyway

If it's left in the case if it's small enough to fit inside, you could still do same, could always then have some ducting to the case to draw air from it out

Interesting..

Original fans are long gone it was just a shell when i got it. I guess i could replicate what was already there with two new fans like youve done bods. Maybe mount them to some mdf. Anyone got any fan recommendations?

Perhaps im overthinking this I just dont want to fry the pc.strykr2019-12-18 11:19:40

Depends how much you want to spend on fans to the quality, something that's going to last and stay quiet is good though

they are tons of choice in PC fans you can get in 120mm size that fit but you don't know how good many no brand ones will last

I've been buying these Sunon ones for other projects as it was the make in something I'd bought

There was a Video on the Mouser website about these MagLev ones, thinking they would be more expensive than previous, had a look anyway and they were cheaper so bought some this time

They are supposed to stay quieter for longer. can get them in 25mm and 38mm deep and different rpm which vary in wattage

On the subject of having a PC in a sega driving cab - is there an interface board that lets the pc control the force feedback?

I think it was SailorSat that made something that connected a PC to a cage filter board, but it's not been released publicly as far as I know.

Other than that there's the L2M2 (I think that's its name) that occasionally gets a print run.

As long as there is some airflow you should be OK decasing it mate. If you have a mATX mobo you could always try sourcing an old Ringedge case. A couple of easy mods and they can power a decent PC with good airflow.

No need to get 100v-240v industrial fans imo, but I would recommend getting some 12v fans that move at least 90CFM. With a fan controller you can adjust the speed as necessary once you get an understanding of how hot things get. It's best to get high RPM fans over low RPM fans in this instance as you can always run them slower but can't run them faster.

In my streaming/encoding PC I went with these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scythe-DFS123812H-3000-Ultra-12Cmfan-3000Rpm/dp/B001JKNMBE

At 38mm thick they are the same size as the industrial fans originally fitted in Sega cabs.

They are quite loud at full pelt as they move 133CFM. So I connected mine to a fan controller and run them at around 2200rpm and they are much quieter. In the summer I can turn them up a bit if the PC starts to get toasty.

For overkill you could mount 3 slower fans vertically in front of the motherboard mounted to some bent plexi or similar, but I don't think that would be needed tbh.

Is this an Initial D3 cab (originally a Touring car) gutted and mamed with a Happ ffb motor hooked up to a servo amplifier and some Logitech Driving Force EX pcb's, all hooked up the cab controls (shifter pedals, dash buttons) etc..?

I'm thinking this is maybe my old build that I sold to a dude called Lorez on the AO forum about 9 years ago? I think it was maybe you who ended up with it?

If so, I don't think you'll have any issue putting the pc inside the base of the cab. I don't know why I didn't have it in there either.. I had the pc and a ps3 outside the cab only because it was the path if least resistance at the time I think.

Dont forget Sega rally 3/daytona usa 3 etc are pc based anyway and they work with a couple of 120mm mains powered fans in the base.

Lindbergh, Europa-r, Ringedge are basically custom PC's.

Hey Sharky, no this isnt your one. Was an empty Initial D shell I got from another member, Ive specced it up more or less the same as your old one though but Could never get the happ or l2m2 working in the end, i gave up on them. Cabs still a lot of fun though. Mainly play the PC version OR2 on it, which is bloody great.

Very true Penrhos. Just be a bit gutted if I fried the pc, the pcs replaceable, the months of configuring and getting how I like is not

.

I measure it today, it should fit. It still has a sega fan at one end as well so I could use that, and buy another for the other side.
