Have to chime in and say this is quite an exciting restoration for me, Popeye is one of my top fave cabs - one of my fondest arcade memories was playing this at Great Yarmouth bitd, there was a jungle king opposite the Popeye and both games were super awesome to see and play.
I was blown away by the detail in the sprites, so much so that I tried making my own version on the spectrum - I actually got a few graphics done before I ran out of user definable characters and kind of gave up...

Anyway, look forward to the progress on this one - looks like you are doing a very thorough job. I'll have to look up some of your other restos going by the comments. I think I would far too scared to strip off that side art though as I think it looks nice anyway.
Your paint booth is super cool btw

He's a surprisingly useful guy and will be again when it's sprayed. He's basically the cabs pillow when it's leant over against the engine frame.

Hey Ian. The side art will be replaced, the cab will be identical to how it was just without the bangs and scratches etc

The spray booth works surprisingly well for what it is, it just helps to keep the dust down enabling a nicer finish (well that's the idea anyhow)

Cheers, Al

The front has had 2 coats of grey primer, just needs sanding back slightly.

The sides have both had 1 coat just ordered another can as I'm out.

Check Bob out, getting stuck right in!

*edit - yep, the sides are white primer, simply because I had enough grey left over to do the front from Donkey Kong, it makes no difference other than how the top coat covers i.e, dark colours will be better over grey, light colours better on white but with the blue it makes no odds as it's in-between*

One of the downsides to using Cellulose aerosols is this

The nozzles don't stay clear long and you don't get any warning when they decide to throw non atomized paint at your nicely prepped surface when the jet starts to narrow.

If the uploaded clip ever works you'll notice I'm not hanging around...this is why!!

It's not a problem, it's just a case of using some ultra fine paper to take the splats off, then spray again.

Cheers Eric, I'll try again when the blue goes on. The trouble is it gets a bit cloudy in there with the overspray and although the new mask sorts the lungs out....the eyes don't like it much ,it's pretty nasty stuff so I tend to spray for a few minutes and get outside for a while. May have to grab some decent goggles.

Yea that's very quick
Although mine dk3 turned out alright in the end, I was getting far to many irregular patches and purely for taking to long in one spot.
Good work al must be hot to in this weather ?

can understand that. Full respirator mask is the way to go but a bit hot for that sort of getup

If I was doing it full time Eric then that would be the route to go for sure. You still playing junior? Not seen any updated scores.

Was your DK3 done with Acrylic Al? You need to keep moving with this stuff as the cans unload quick, stay in one spot too long then it's all over....drip tastic and there's also the concern of the nozzle blocking!

It is hot in there at the moment but it's cooler than outside!
