Am near Newhaven port, and willing to help out with moving stuff if a driver is looking for a co-pilot.

Edit: not saying I am limited to only Newhaven, happy to go wherever a van is.

Not 100% on the port yet just need to figure out what the best and quickest route is. Toll roads in France can bump up the cost so need to factor that in. Was thinking maybe Portsmouth to caen because the driving is a little less. French motorways are generally excellent though so it should be plain sailing. SUPERSPRINT2017-08-31 20:25:57

Sounds like my kind of daft road trip. I'm in. I am game to help out and write up the raid if that's OK.

Is there a plan for where the cabs end up once over here? I can't commit to any cabs at this point due to space issues.

Does the location allow for this to be a there and back in a day kinda raid?

(Edit: subject to dates due to work commitments at the moment).

The write up sounds great and this trip I'm sure will be worthy. The plan was for 6 or so vans and a certain commitment of 10/12 cabs per van at least. What is done with those I guess is up to who ever picks up the bill per van.The deal is for the lot, there was no other way of doing it. It's a 3/4 hour trip once in France and the ferry is around 3/4 hours each way if I remember. It will be a long day without the loading of machines.SUPERSPRINT2017-08-31 21:13:45

Do you know what day you'd likely be doing this on? I know that might sound trivial but being freelance, as I am, would make it inordinately expensive to take part in anything during the week. Not that that is a pledge but can't begin to contemplate anything if it was during the week.

It was a thought, 'like, how could I do anything?

It sounds like there are plenty of offers of help. But feel free to PM me if anyone needs a set of hands, bad company and petrol/ferry money from south London!

I guess to organise a date it would need to be what suits most. I guess nearly all people the will be governed by the other half and weekend commitments with family.
Including me. I would think if it's a travel time with ferry and France driving that could be 8hrs alone so it's at least a 2 day raid.

Logisitcs of this with drivers sounds a nightmare so:

Hire a storage unit near the target location

Use 2 or 3 lutons and that way you are leaving nothing behind

Then anything you leave in the storage unit can be transported back by one of those companies that moves Brits stuff out to their new homes en France.

Job done

I could come down with my pinball mate. If it's around Caen that's about 3.5h drive for me.
I'm not after anything myself (maybe a spare crt if one needs a home), but I guess my pinball might be happy to take one flipper home.

I can help. I have a luton van with tail lift. Need a co-driver thou. I can also help with some storage. I am based near Portsmouth with warehousing in Hambledon. I would image this to be a Friday night sailing with collection and back to port on Saturday.
