Some operators still do this, we spend a weekend warming up the games
before we switch them on for the first time each year. Half hour with
a 2kw fan heater and you're a lot less likely to have the monitor or
PSU going up in smoke.

For my own games, where I don't want to wait half an hour before playing
the games, I use a 40w light bulb in a fitting fixed to the inside of the
back door and leave it switched on 24 hours a day. It keeps the insides
of the game warm and dry, and it doesn't waste electricity by attempting
to heat a draughty shed/garage.
