I'm considering getting one of these for a bit of casual gaming, but not sure if the cost is going to be worth it (around £280 seems to be the going rate). Just looking for some good pick-up-and-play fun games, and no murder-death-kill FPS crap.

I've no idea about the console really, or what games are available, so looking for a quick heads-up on what's good about it, and some reasons why it'd be worth me getting one, or not? I'd mainly be playing single player games (so ronery!) on the TV. I'm not specifically after playing retro games, but if there's good retro stuff available, all the better.

Ta!

I have one and I love it. It's got fantastic games - both new and retro. I love the fact that I can play it on the TV but if I want to I can just hoik it out of the dock and play on the sofa while my wife watches telly or whatver.

It really does have some great games, and if you sign up for online which is something like £17 a year, you can play a decent selection of SNES games and NES games too.

If you want some recommendations for games I'd probably say my favourites are:

Mario Kart

Mario Oddessy

Mario Maker 2

Captain Toad

Super Smash Bros

You can get a very good version of R-Type & R-Type 2 - you can set it up to be arcade perfect or with tarted up visuals etc. If you're in to SF2 then there's a collection with most of the arcade releases on one card. They're a bunch of old Sega games available, including Outrun and Sonic. And of course, Untitled Goose Game. :)

I don't regret my purchase one bit - I ended up buying a second one for the kids so they didn't keep stealing mine :)

Thanks for the info and recommendations. I'd definitely be interested in Mario type games, but I'm not a fan of Street Fighter style games, TBH.

I didn't know about the online subscription thing, so will look into what you get with that. Thanks.

It's defintely worth doing - you need it for online gaming but I'd say it's well worth the £17 a year to be able to play A link to the past, Mario World, F-Zero, Pilotwings etc.

If you check out the Wulff Den on YouTube Bob does a lot of content on the Switch, might be useful to get an idea.

Cheers

Haven't heard of Toby Deals before. In Hong Kong I see. How speedy is their delivery? How would the £20 extra cashback referral work? The link just takes me to the main page. I'm already signed up on topcashback.co.uk if that makes a difference?

I see the Switch has Super Bomberman R and Pac-Man CE 2 plus. Anyone played these? Some online multiplayer Bomberman sounds good and the Pac-Man game looks like just the ticket, too.

There's about 15 games on the Switch that take my interest (I'll copy my list later). Mainly retro remakes and the like. Pretty tempted to get one myself but would go for the Switch lite

If it was me don’t bother. No different to the wii which no one plays these days.

Just my opinion. I don’t understand the hype around them.

Imho the Wii and Switch are chalk and cheese. The Wii suffered from games centred around letting your nan play by waving a remote about. The switch is much more like Nintendo consoles of old in terms of games and who they’re aimed at. Again just my opinion.

Hopefully the sellection of games will mean he actually plays this they seem to have opened up to other developers more this time round we had the wii u a few years back and it never really got played much at all

I might get myself a lite version if i like the setup allthough the screen is smaller and there is no hd rumble with the lite

Shame the vita was never really supported
Properly great hand held machine with the early oled screen

Definitely looks like there's some good stuff on the Switch, then. Looking forward to checking it all out. Haven't bothered with consoles since the PS3, which didn't get much use. The Switch looks like it's more up my street.

Fantastic console, region free also which is great for picking up foreign exclusives. I’m into the collectors editions of the Japanese games, Rockman 11, capcom belt action, snk collectors 40th, tons of great indie games and Rocket league is also excellent fun. SUPERSPRINT2019-12-03 22:42:11
