Thanks, but too far from me and I don't really want a VCR combo.

I'm looking at a TV to buy, but I can't seem to find if it can do 60hz RGB SCART input. The symbol on the TV scart socket looks different to what I normally see. Does anyone know what it signifies? It's a Sony Trinitron.tv scart.jpg

It does RGB SCART from a PAL GameCube, as that's what the seller tested with. I just don't know about 60hz.
If it's proper Scart RGB it will do 60hz in colour fine... all the newer flat tubed, silver cased Trinitrons do NTSC over composite fine also (I.e in colour / correct speed). Some of the older gen 14 inch black cased Trinitrons (curved tubes) will be fine for NTSC and 60hz over RGB scart, but NTSC over composite (AV) will be in black and white. The 21 inch models and larger, black cases and curved tubes seem to be usually be ok for NTSC over composite though.

The silver cased, flat tube KV range of Trinitrons make nice screens for retro games. If in good condition, low hrs etc, though it annoys PVM fans to say so, they can rival some PVMs in the smaller sizes especially. I have a 14' KV that is a nicer picture than several 14' PVMs had over years.

Yeah, the picture on my 21" KV is good enough for me. Not saying it's perfect, but I specifically didn't want to get all anal about getting a perfect picture, and just get on and play some flipping games. Lol. There's a decent amount of image tweaks in the service menu, though.

I also bought a nice little 15" flat screen Philips TV, which has probably got an even nicer picture than my KV (controversial!). It's got stereo speakers, too. I had a great little Philips TV back in the 90s. I don't think Philips CRTs get the credit they deserve.

I tried to look up SCART symbols, to no avail. Presumably 3 dots means RGB though.
I was always jealous of my mate's Quintrix portable back in the 90's - the RGB picture was incredible. Sadly one day it just didn't switch on (like so many deceased CRTs)
I've got a PVM and it's very nice, but it's no better than a high-end portable - the BVMs are the ones with the special dot pitch (sometimes).
As said too, a perfect picture is an odd thing - in a way it's the imperfections that make the CRT special - I could run MAME on an OLED using HLSL if I wanted everything immaculately square with no dot pitch and massive scanlines.

Yes, I always assumed the 3 dots meant RGB, but god knows what the curve symbol means, that's on some, but not others.

BTW, the 15" flatscreen Philips I mention above is a CRT of course, and not flatscreen LCD. :)

I managed to pick up a matsui 20" crt from freecycle last month,I know it's only currys cheap crap from back in the day,but I felt I had to save it,I plugged it in and it works fine,no where near as sharp as a triniton picture of course, but a working 20" crt for free these days is a rare thing, and I may even open it up and see if the tube yoke readings are good enough for a hanty chasis,as I have a dodgy tube in one of my cabs

Be interesting to see what make of tube it has.

I'll warrant most of our childhood tvs were portables from the likes of Matsui, Bush, Tatung etc.... Dixons, Curry's, cheap end of the TV pages in the Argos catalogue ; )
