Removing paint from side art? Possible?

Hi all,

I have a cab where part of the side art has been painted but I'm fairly sure the original artwork is OK underneath. I want to strip the paint back without damaging the art underneath. Has anyone successfully managed to do this? Any tips?

Depends on what paint really, if its vinyl it might steam off. Gloss would be trickier, but may do the same otherwise try turps or equiv on a small unnoticeable bit, spray paint is a pain in the butt, water washable stores own nitromors on a cloth and quick with the water. They sell a product in the US called clean green or something similar, that had some good reviews.

try the local council they will have a graffiti unit, im pretty sure if you ask nice enough they will give you some good stuff. but keep it quiet dont tell everyone. i did see a programme, well advert once and they used a small high pressure jet with chemicals to lift a layer of paint. it did the job pretty well. hth. cheers.

Although as a local authority, H & S removed the product from the approved list some years ago, so we are not allowed to use it

Any news on whether this worked? I've got some panels which look as though they've got over-painted art on them and I'd like to find out what it is.
