Replacing Monitor Glass/Bezel

With regard to the monitor glass on this cabinet, the original artwork is somewhat damaged. I have replacement artwork from Muddy which looks fantastic.

Rather than mess around trying to clean up the glass and destroying the original artwork in the process, is it a sensible idea to sandwich the new art between two pieces of clear polycarbonate?

If so, what sort of thickness should I go for?

not a bad idea

needs to fit the gap

so if you got 2 sheets of toughened glass - if they make it that thin...

then it will be hyper stong and then its ok to have 2 lots of thinner material

toughened glass might cost more then perspex but will look really great

Won't need to put the art between 2 sheets on the midi as there's good edge support for the bezel art, one 5mm bit of Perspex over the top should do the job nicely for about £12.

Cool thanks. Yes I saw the previous post about trent plastics and plastic people.

I was going to try to just enjoy this cabinet as-is before tinkering and making improvements. But I just can't help myself.

Ooops bring this back from a while ago!

Just curious, did you go with Trent plastics, if so, I was wondering what you ordered and what you ended up doing with your cab regarding plexi?

I'm on a scratch build and starting to consider if we sandwich the art work. Or I wonder if we can get artwork that adheres direct onto the front of the acrylic?

I was looking at the light grey tint plexi, for the smokey effect! Maybe its one tint and one clear piece?

Does it look ok with 2 pieces? No apparent gap?

Sooo many questions, apologies...

I used a 2mm and 3mm piece of perspex from trentplastics. I used this approach on the bezel and marquee then sandwiched the art. I used novus plastic polish to get it looking as good as possible.

And yes it looks fine to my eyes. Well much better than the original flaking bezel!

The nice thing about this approach is its dead easy to change the art.

For small orders trentplastics worked out cheaper than rivals due to not having a minimum order fee. dj_yt2016-02-01 08:31:21

thx dj_yt

Sounds like a plan to me, thank you for the guidance!

I'll get some ordered and see how we go from there!
