Cool thread !

I've got a few....A 1994 850 Csi, 1982 911 SC and a newly acquired 1989 190e that I'm turning into an M3 V8 engine monster.

I'd love that 911. It looks like your quite well off, so owning one, would never happen for me. Prices have gone stupid on them as well.Chopper792018-11-11 11:08:04

I lost everything including my Star wars cockpit :-( 10 years ago, I've just worked crazy hours and been very fortunate with work since :)

I bought the 911 for 10k...about 4 years ago (last one I've seen at that price.) It was a complete rust bucket when I picked it up.

I bought steel genuine rear quarters (from the door back) front wings, sills, bonnet....the only original panels are the roof and the doors. It cost a lot but it looks the part now. Prices have indeed gone crazy, I might sell it soon. Luckily I can do all the work apart from paint.

I've wanted a 911 for years. Great work so far.
Me too. I bought a Haynes manual for one when I was 18 and started writing down my savings on the back page each month.....Then I met a girl and the rest is history :)

I wanted a Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth for years when I was younger. I had a G reg Sierra Sapphire 2.0glsi with Ford RS bodykit and wheels and a leather Cossie interior as my third car. My dad has got a 1954 Ford Consul MK1, needs a bit of restoration now but is still a solid car.tb20002018-11-11 11:39:12

I always had a soft spot for cossies, still look awesome today, a little pricey now tho

My first car was canary yellow (and rust) Mk1 Vauxhall Cavalier, that had been my Mum’s but the engine was so gubbed it wouldn’t run.

I said to my Dad if I got it running, could I have it?
He was clueless mechanically and I’d never shown any obvious signs of mechanical prowess.

Within a couple of years I had queues of mates getting me to swap engines out (could to a Metro in 2hrs start to finish), replace braking systems and suspension etc. Fitting radios I hated, but that was such a “thing” in the late 80s.

Swore I’d never touch another car again one winter recovering my brother on an unlit and winding Scottish B road. It was -17, howling blizzard, the snow was being driven so hard it got passed the radiator and distributer cap/leads etc were soaked/frozen.

Most fun car I had was a Honda Civic 16v 3 door. 150 hp, engine was designed to go to 8000rpm, weighed same as a mini, no power steering and handled like a go-cart.

Alas, I never took any photos of that car :(

Had a 944 as well, great cars - so good to drive.

9 years of reliable motoring, took it to France, Belgium Orkney and Knockhill :)

Can still pick em up cheaper than a ford crapi in equivalent condition.

944.jpg

Mine was exactly the same colour, gun metal grey if I remember rightly. Some great cars so far, absolutely love the 911.

My current money-pit is my late Dad’s 1980 Vauxhall Royale Coupé 2.8L 6 cylinder (burgundy with velour interior, I’ll post photos later).
Unfortunately now it’s only 5 cylinders since a valve broke going from the car storage to MOT station, completely disintegrating one of the cylinders.

Indeed, old cars are like old cabs in so many ways.

This one has a long list of unobtanium parts.

So, if anyone happens to have a spare Opel/Vauxhall 2.8 or 3L 6 cylinder short block kicking around their shed....ocb2018-11-11 14:17:25

Pff. Nothing but junk. This is the definition of a "classic car". Rare, desirable and also my first set of wheels.

It wasn't just brown, it was various shades of brown.

Mic drop.

Mic drop? Suspension drop was a very regular occurrence though - mount points at the rear were dodgy mild BL steel.

Fitted a fair few suspension “rescue kits” to those...

Certainly they were more agreeable to work on than the Mini.
I understand why people love them, but they aren’t a pleasure to maintain or work on.

Top thread, I love old cars and I have had them all and in multiples thereof too.. there are not many models that I have not owned, sold or driven.. I'm a classic car dealer..

https://www.themodernclassiccarco.com

..my website (I made every part of it and maintain it myself), this represents about 5 years of work/stock (check the sold page)..

I'm not trying to sell anything.. just a point of interest to those who like old cars!

It was a pup, dude. All of them were pups. That one had rust everywhere, ate head gaskets for lunch, would cut out completely at 70mph on the motorway and had total subframe failure. It hit a deer, was hit by a van and literally had the passenger door ripped off so someone could nick my half empty packet of cigarettes and shtty Goodman's stereo.

It was a hateful, hateful car.Milky2018-11-11 16:13:15
