Return of The Finger Board.

First, I apologise for the cross posting. I hope you don't mind me doing a little market research.

So, playing around with the arcade kit again recently, I soon found
myself craving jamma fingerboards. About a zillion years ago I had some
of these manufactured but looking around I see there are now a variety
cheaply available.
Now, good as those boards are, i didn't see any
that offered the same features as my boards, specifically the ability to
make a completely solid adaptor with no flexing wires that can
eventually break.

So here's the question. Should I get a new
batch made? I redrew the thing in Eagle the other night and priced it
up. I'd have to sell them for around £2 each (remember you can snap
these in half in which case you get 2 edge connectors for £2 that are
very similar to the ones that sell for around £1 each) That price
guestimate is based on having 300 odd made. If you'd be interested in
having 5 or more please let me know and I'll put you on the notification
list but there is no obligation to buy.

This will help me
greatly in determining if the project is worth pursuing or if people are
happy with the finger boards that are available now. And I'm not
knocking the existing boards. They all fit in their own niche.

I would have done but when I couldn't get any I ended up buying enough of some very, very similar ones to last me out my entire collecting life!!

Hope it does go ahead though.

Made a few changes based on feedback.

Made
the pads narrower and the card slimmer. Removed the key slot on one
side and changed the numbering to comply to the jamma standard.

now if you can just have a description of what the pin is on the jamma side, they would be perfect

P1-UP / P1-DWN etc.

(although it probably means making it wider again, and thin is good!)

p.s. whats with the odd number pads on the lower half of the picture ...

The odd pads are just a glitch in EAGLE.. they are fine.

I'm not keen on copying swallow's finger boards. Although they're expensive, they are nice and it's one thing to offer an alternative product but trying to copy and undercut anyone's products, I think, is a bit counter productive. We're lucky to have suppliers in such a specialised field and I don't want to give them less of a reason to stick around. Yes I know it makes me a lousy businessman.

Demand appear to be there so I'll go ahead and get these made. Here's
the latest design iteration. Some want the GND pins tied together and
some don't so I've put solder pads that can be 'blobbed' together as a
compromise:

I'll go for 10-20 please, I stated that on the facebook thread but not sure that was the best place to say it (as no one else did :) )
Cheers,

Andy
