Seeing your GP.

Simple, right?

Not around here is ain't.

Boiled down...... 4 weeks ago I caught the nail on the big toe of my left foot. It was already split and it ripped off all down one side. Hurt like hell and the air turned blue. Anyway. tough guy that I like to think I am, I stuck some germolene on it and got on with things.

Within a couple of days it got infected. And no amount of hot salty baths and germolene would put it right. By now I was struggling just to walk because of the pain.

Went to the pharmacy and was told to see my GP. I knew where this was going to lead.

I called the GP. Was simply told there's no slots for a call back (let alone actually being seen). Told to call back in the morning.

For the last 3 weeks I've called them every morning when I've arrived at work (08:30), hung on till I got an answer, only to be told the same thing...there's no slots for a call back (let alone actually being seen). Call back in the morning.

Almost every evening after work I've tried calling 111. Then sat in a phone queue for up to 2 hours before my phone's gone flat. Never ever got an answer.

Tried 111 online. Answered tons of questions that finished with "See your GP"

Yesterday morning (Fri) when I got the usual answer from the GP reception I lost my rag. Was told the best they could offer was for me to call the GP number after 6:30PM that evening and I'd get to speak to an emergency out of hours service.

So, I did. And got promptly connected to the familiar queue for 111.

At around 8:30PM the phone went flat again.

So, last resort, last night I went and sat in A&E for 4hrs. I knew I was wasting their time. They knew I was wasting their time. There is no shortage of people with far more urgent issues than an infected toe for them to deal with.

But, I've finally got some anti-biotics to fight this infection.

Worrying thing is though, A&E told me if it's not better in 2 weeks to see my GP!

Welcome to an NHS that the Tories are privatising.
Part 1 - defund and run it into the ground.

Part 2 - sell bits to the USA

Part 3 - people switch to paid for services like push-doctor

Part 4 - shut even more of the NHS down and sell more of it off.

I think we are between 3 and 4 at the moment.

Not much comfort to people like you that need the service we've all paid for through our taxes though. :-(

Think it's a postcode lottery to be fair...
I got to see me GP the day I booked when I thought I had lymph node problem in May, was an inguinal hernia :s

Got referred to hospital and had keyhole surgery a few weeks ago already.

I can't complain about the NHS here, but feel sorry for people where it's cack

I'm stuck at home with covid and my back went into spasm 2 days ago.
45 minutes onto 111 and I gave up and rang the GP. I got through but the care co-ordinator told me to ring the physio. So until next week's phone appointment, I'm walking around using a Vileda mop as a stick, whilst trying to stop the kids kill each other 'cos they've gone mad in isolation.

Test and trace rang to remind me to stay at home... 'Oh I'm not going anywhere, I can't get out of this chair'. Can hardly walk into A&E either. T&T told me that when I was allowed to leave the house next week I should drink lots of orange vitamin juice

Same story here and in the Somerset region. The NHS as a whole is completely overrun.

What was the promise from that guy who wanted Brexit? A more efficient and well funded NHS ... ? Yeah... good job mate.

But that's a whole different rant all together. It is worrying though i hope my health stays ok for the foreseeable as this situation is scary.

Had a fall back in Feb and hurt my right shoulder and wrist - two fingers are still numb. Haven't even bothered attempting to see a doc yet, as I know what a nightmare it is. The days of having a specific doctor assigned to you seem to be long gone. Doesn't help that surgeries are really struggling to recruit GPs. Seems not many Doctors want to go into general practice. Several of the doctors at my surgery have been signed off sick with stress. So yeah, it's all a complete mess, really.

My work colleague fired a frame gun staple through finger ( accidentally ) , pulled it out and washed with alcohol. The usual thing in my trade . Week later had infection , same as you with gp but he only persisted for a week, so paid private with a clinic ! I'm sure he said the consultation cost £60 for 15 minutes !!!! Got a prescription for antibiotics.

But look on the bright side , that bellend looking alpaca with the thieving lot looking after big business and shares ect. Investing in overrun £130 billion + on a fast train that's going to be cut short of initial length ( as Europe and the US starting newer magnetic lift rails we start old inefficient wheels and tracks ). Spending millions next year looking into a bridge from Scotland to Ireland, dont worry this country is in good hands with financial management.

This. Better in different areas. Notice the difference between Coventry and Kent

My experience with our local hospital in the last few years has been fantastic. My heart problems were diagnoses and treated like I was the only patient that mattered. And my GP's involvement was virtually zip. It was a mobile NHS health check van in a supermarket car park that got the ball rolling, not the GP.

I firmly believe that the GP is the broken cog in the system. I think their innaction must be responsible for more harm than good.

If you can bypass the GP you've got a chance.

In a few years the wife and I will be retiring to rural Lincolnshire (from urban Basildon) and the wife is worried about how far we'll be from a GP. I told her... We're only a few hundred yard from one now and can't bloody see him!

So... what ya tryin' t' say?

I get you. But our doctors and nurses (and ALL the other staff..... exept management) in our hospitals are angels, and deserve our gratitude and respect.... and a bloody good pay rise.

GPs on the other hand...........

but the system is f**ked and if you think otherwise you are suffering delusion

i know how to do my job perfectly and i do it on a daily basis, if you tell me the nhs does the same then i worry about your sanity

Well I've read what you say too and I'm not agreeing with you, and maybe you should be more specific about who in the NHS you think are 'pricks' and 'c**t's.

Fix it, I don't want a US-style health insurance system.

If you are against privatization then support weownit.org as they are protesting against private ownership of many of our local GP's, NHS and railways. Private insurance is a no go. Private companies only care about profits not your health.

Doctors should be seeing people now
If you can get to A and E and you’ve infection ( I know o.p did )
I’d suggest you get there as long as you don’t have covid like mentioned
Please don’t suffer in silence ! Infections can go extremely wrong
It’s your health and the most important thing bar none !
