Yes, RMC is one of the few VG channels I still watch, fantastic stuff - must get down there one day. Alongside Luke Morse for maybe 15 years and more recently 'video game esoterica' that's about it.

I watch all of them too! Luke Morse actually got me into arcade PCB repair :) It was sad when he got rid of his Blast City, but life drama was a thing indeed 😯

For retro PC gaming stuff I love LGR and Tech Tangents as well.

As for the Mega-Tech, I stabilized the foundation this weekend. Basically the entire side was cracked and wobbly:

I hid 6 long screws below the metal protection bars along the bottom. For good measure I put some extra metal braces, long screws for the feet and lots of wood glue. This is now most definitely the strongest section of the entire cab:

Wow.Good thread.I got hold of a Megatech and some games recently and didn't know the marquee lit up so that's something I need to look at.More concerning is the random faults I get where I switch it on and it goes straight into test mode or I don't get a picture OR the top screen goes scrambled

Sharing is caring :) I'm actually planning to put all my findings on the wiki here. I tracked down some missing manuals as well that I am scanning as we speak. Have you measured all the power supply voltages already?

As above and what screwdriver do I need to remove the security screws?
Security-Torx T25. Part of most torx bit sets!

Thank you.Yes I have done the voltages.
Guy who serviced it seems to think its the bios chip and z80 next to it.Dirty sockets. He did clean them and had it running on test rig for an afternoon with no problems.I have removed them, cleaned the sockets and chips and reseated them but fault still exists intermittently. No pattern to it.Next thing to try is replacing the sockets themselves but he wants £50 to do this

Very common problem because of how the motherboard lays flat in the cabinet and gets covered in dust and dirt. Replacing the two sockets is usually the first thing I do when repairing them.

Like any service you're going to be paying a lot more than if you did it yourself but you're also paying for their experience, having the right tools and hopefully doing a good job. You could buy all the equipment and do it yourself for ~£200 but most likely damage the board and not do the cleanest of jobs if you don't have the experience.

So in short yes it's reasonable assuming they do a good job and don't damage the board and fit a lot of bodge wires.

This is a very educational thread..I love it. You can't get much done for 50 quid these days, so I concur;)

So.Brought a bit set with T25 and it doesn't fit the screws. They have a small peg in the middle of them and MY T25 doesn't have an indent in the centre to fit the peg.Am I being an idiot?

Documentation sharing time

The cab included a written manual for the Hantarex MTC9000, but the changed main screen was a Kortek KTM-F with no manual available online.
I ended up tracking down the missing manual on UK ebay. Damn, post brexit import duties and shipping cost were higher than the item...

Anyways, here we are:

After a night of scanning and Photoshop now free for everyone:
