I don't know anything about getting car insurance in France, but any buyer in the UK definitely wouldn't need that for insurance purposes. They would to get road tax though.....but this is normally sorted out at the point of collecting the car nowadays. It can'be done until he legally owns the vehicle - as it can't have tax in both your name and his. Again, who knows what the rules are in France?frothmeister2019-07-08 11:16:44

Sounds dodgy to me, but then life has made me a pretty cynical old git.

They really know how to screw u over with car tax these days. With how easy it is to tax ur car now and no disc to display i cannot see why car tax has to start at beginning of a month, your insurance dont or mot so why tax

You should be able to tax it from any day u choose instead of loosing a month for nothing

Picked up car the other year was quite a way so like an idiot once i'd filled out new owner details i taxed it, was only few days before end of month so was going to sorn it once home, oh no, no you cant do that, because u only just put in your name you have to wait until you get paper work back or fill out more forms that would of took over a week so just for being law abiding i had to loose 2 months tax so its last time i tax a car to drive it home for 2 hours

So i sorn my other car for a few months to get the money back as i dont use it often after summer, parked on the road but since found out it dont have to be taxed, mot'd or insured on my road as its not public highway which is bonus

1000's of cars are untaxed all the time and you never see any police to do anything anyway, even when partner has reported cars near her for no tax, insurance or mot they dont do anything half time

You certainly get some people buying your stuff Ste, probably nothing sinistar, suppose its not easy buying a car when in another country and just wanted to see u have documents as its long way. Guess you could send photo of u blanked out main numbers that could be used for fraud

I would avoid this in a big way.

How does he intend to pay you?

Is it to be picked up by who?

Lots of stuff going on with this now.

Bank Transfers are very open to fraud at the minute.

mmmm yes I have heard that one as well.

Just don't let him take the car without the cash being banked.

£20 notes are available in Calais for £3 each.

And if he turns up and asks to do a Bank Transfer then be really worried.

Just ask yourself why travel that far including Fuel and Commercial Crossing.

He must be getting it mighty cheap to do that.

Just be very careful buddy. Once he has the Car and the signed V5 its a Civil Matter.

Sometimes you need to have a bit of faith in people, end of day if he turns up and pays cash you can't really go wrong, just make sure it's not dodgy notes.

Can't believe some people on TV that have paid people Bank Transfer or Paypal for cars costing £1000's and not even seen the car because the buyer says they will deliver it once payment received

You can always google some of the security features of notes like this on the Poly ones

@nurtuo Thanks for the reply.. im thinking the same but a few online seem to think cars in france are expensive so they are willing to come here :/
@Bods I could never buy a car without looking at it some people are mad.. The amount of cars that look brilliant on pics then you go see them and your thinking is this the same car? lol .. amount of scams that go on is mental
are they just blacklights they use on the notes to check them?

Yeah it's those little test lamps they have in the banks which is black light

I've seen notes that I swear were fakes, weren't even the right size compared to the others, I had photo's somewhere but can't find them, guy I was with said we'll check it with one of those pens you mark it with, it passed but I still say it was fake so wouldn't trust the pens on 20's

remember years back in the early days of ebay, guy in Derby I was working with, he said some guy had bid on his fiesta and paid more than he expected, didn't think he would turn up, came from London to get it, said it was a lot cheaper than down there, so yeah it's quite likely some cars are more expensive or just harder to find in some countries

Hope it all goes to plan

Definite mid-life crisis. It's always either a super car, a 2 seater sports car, a speed boat, a jet ski, a Swiss watch, or............ a grail cab!

There ya go, have a little faith and no problem. Pleased to hear it went well. though obviously a shame selling it

Or just do them all, Super Car, Convertible or both in one like F355 or NSX Targa, Go the whole hog and get a scarab boat like Miami Vice had
smiley1.gif
and ya Rolex so you can get mugged or stabbed for it

Watching that Posh Pawn programme, I found it quite amazing when James was saying he had a Ferrari but sold it because of the abuse he got when driving it, I thought the stuff Clarkson said about people spitting in it if you have a Targa or Spider was him jokin as usual but seems not from what that guy was saying

That is the only issue with cars, unless you use them, not much point in having them, well you would need a large garage that's heated really for anything of value, pretty much why I dismissed having anything expensive and stuck to the arcade machines Outrun Dlx and F355 are my Ferrari which I can drive anytime
