Just got my first sextortion phishing email!

Never heard of it before tbh, yeah I'm getting old now.

The email uses my name and an old house address and it requests that I transfer £1000 in Bitcoin to a random BTC wallet and then they will delete a video of me masturbating. Otherwise everyone in my email contact list will get sent a link to the video.

A quick Google shows that I'm not the only lucky person to have been recorded by a webcam they don't own/have installed masturbating to a video on a porn site that they didn't visit. Well maybe I did visit a random site at some point, not gonna lie there!

Anyone else been sent this wonderful email?

Looks like it may have been my old data from Kickstarter which was hacked a few years ago going by the website below. Or it could be from the autofill feature in a web browser.

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

At least 54 people have reported the bitcoin wallet in the email. Makes me wonder if anyone has paid the ransom?

Ah yeah I had that one as well, quite a while ago though.

I just sent everyone I know a video of me masturbating anyway. Now I'm immune to the scammers.

Ha, I've had that email many times, quite a spell of them about 3 years ago. I don't even have a web camera, I just deleted them.

A large amount of email and personal data been harvested from various data breaches in past years so scammers are just going through that to find contact details to attempt the scam en mass and of course some random person will end up paying out.

You can check which contact details of yours have been harvested by doing a search over at:

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Sadly 3 of my email address ended up in there and thus 2 of them have been discontinued.

wow did not realise linked in was hacked, I appear 5 times but dont recognise some of the others it points towards.
SHA1 thats a bit sh*t they used that.

LinkedIn: In May 2016, LinkedIn had 164 million email addresses and passwords exposed. Originally hacked in 2012, the data remained out of sight until being offered for sale on a dark market site 4 years later. The passwords in the breach were stored as SHA1 hashes without salt, the vast majority of which were quickly cracked in the days following the release of the data.

Compromised data: Email addresses, Passwords

I've had that one a couple of times. Think they got my details from the talk talk breach due to the age of the details.

Makes a change from viagra, fake shipping, apple id etc I usually get.

No webcam so I can knock one out with impunity....

Got so many fake calls to the landline (which is ex directory) that I've unplugged it as no one else calls me on it. I would cancel it but virgin charge more for my other services without a phone-line.
