Phone them, I heard on theregister that some consoles were susceptible to get bricked from the update and they are giving brand new slims out.

This generation as so silly, Microsoft offers the consumer more from a warranty and support perspective than any other vendor, yet they get shafted time after time. Ask yourself if Apple would replace it!

Yeah stick with it dood, I reckon you'll get something decent out of it in the end if you kick up enough stink!

I spoke to them earlier on, before making the video. The reponse I got was.

"The consoles been modified" "You need to pay £75 for repair"

I told them it hasn't been modified, and I ain't paying for something that their update has borked

So I'll send a compaint and take it from there

I guess you have, but I'm going to mention it anyway...

I notice in the video you're on wireless - have you tried a wired ethernet for the update? My console wouldn't update on wireless for this update, as soon as I plugged it into wired it worked.

Long shot but worth trying if you haven't already.

It has always been on wired. But for the video it was disconnected

It will never accept the update because they have flagged it as banned

I even tried updating from USB and it sticks at the same point

Apple wouldn't release an update that would brick their products !

Even IF you modified the console, I highly doubt it is legal for Microsoft to deliberately brick your product.

Modyfing a console is not illegal.

Yeah I'm taking it further. They have left my console in a crippled state.

I've got nowt to worry about because I've done nothing wrong. I'm 100% that this console isn't modified so whatever they are spouting about the reason for my console to be banned/damaged is rubbish.

Lots of other people are having exacly the same issue on the xbox forums, so its a fairly wide-spread issue

Microsoft is SO running on dead ends....the only cork (and I agree it's a big one) they still drift on is Windows.
They fail in every other market. The problem is that those markets require actually creating something new instead of copy-pasting from competitors.

Tablets, phones, Zune...hah ! It's either iOS or Android.

An Xbox is nothing more than a small PC.

I had a similar experience with Nintendo. My son had a DS that was about 3 weeks old. While playing, he calls me and says dad, my screen has gone all strange. He was PLAYING, not throwing/dropping it.
I looked and the LCD was broken !

Sent it in under warranty, Nintendo says that we dropped it. Totally untrue, but they claim they can read out data from a chip that is registering this.

Who says it hasn't been dropped BEFORE I bought it ?

Whatever, you can't win the battle against those giant companies.

An update:

The good news: My issue is now being looked at by the complaints team

The very bad news: The complaints team have already attempted to fob me off by claiming that Xbox 360's have never had silver warranty seals! It's a good job my son also has a fairly old Xbox and I was aware that the seals are exactly the same!!

I've got to say I have lost total confidence in Microsoft dealing with this issue in a fair and correct manner

Hey dude,

I've got a launch model too and if you need some pics of my warranty seals and serial plate just let me know. Bunch of cheeky f**kers!

Good to hear that the complaints team are looking into it though.

I bet that complaints team is either full of temps or it's simply an external company that MS hired to do the dirty work, and they are probably not well informed by MS....

Result!

Microsoft have now decided that there is an element of doubt, and will take the Xbox to examine.

If they find that it's modifed then they will send it straight back. If
they determine that they have made a mistake and it is not modified
then they will repair/replace it.

I do hope that when they discover that it's not been tampered with that I also get an apology
