[ukvac] Shipping US cabs to the UK (from rgvac NG)
Mark Firth has posted this article on RGVAC. I thought the details were worth repeating here and we all need to co-ordinate - I know more UKVACers read this than rgvac surprisingly ;P
Heres "Mafs question..."
Are there any UK guys out there who ship games into the UK from the US??? I
have bought a couple of machines on EBay and am having problems shipping
them in at a reasonable price....Is there such a thing as group shipping
where a few of you organise shipping together?? Any suggestions of
carriers etc who handle arcade machines?? Cheers in advance Maf
HEH! Here's MY reply - This topics been brought up here a couple of times, and needs discussion again.
Yep! I'm the geezer whos done this - ONCE
As Skitz said - it was a pain in the arse - ONLY cos of distance for
communication etc. The guys who helped move it did a superb job and theres
absolutely no criticsm to be levied on their part - its more frustration and
cost.
Having said that there are two options. 1 - The *BEST* individual price I've
got so far is $350-$490 - NO packing - no delivery email me if you want the
contact details.
Next up is the UKVAC idea of importing by the container load. 30 cabs can
fit, the container costing $3000 - thats $100 each. There are flaws with
this -
1) ,machines are spread out and you need to congregate them at the
shippers - meaning an agent.
2) each machine will need power conversion - or a Tandy external power
step-down.
3) importation tax, and delivery on to your home.
4) the *REAL* problem - we're all collectors with dedicated wishes for
machines - For instance I'd want a Joust and a Qix if I did it again. You've
obviously found your babies. But if say 15 people joined together - with 2
machines - and agreement to centralise them via forward air or some other
way - then heck we're in business If you find a warehouse - again support
from the US.
Your more likely (heck I know one already) to find and OP over in the US who
will fill a container with 30 cabs - you dont get no choice - you dont get
no picking - and then you have to shift them over here - yikes.
Its *NOT* a bad idea. But people have to be aware of the implications.
I'm happy to expand in detail if necessary or to diseminate info (or join 15
other entrepreneurs).
