Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help me resurrect my Silent Scope cabinet. It has the dreaded 11-P error. This means the NVRAM timekeeper battery has died and the chip needs replacing. Cab was working fine for months prior to this fail. When I opened the cabinet up this chip has previously been replaced by a previous owner as the chip is socketed.
Here are steps I have previously tried - if anyone can advise where I have gone wrong or if anyone can supply a pre-flashed chip that works I'd be very grateful...
Purchased a couple of M48T58Y chips from Mouser so I know they are legit and in-date.
Downloaded Silent Scope MAME rom and extracted the m48t58y.35d file. I checked the region of my Silent Scope board - sticker says it is European so that means the region code in the code needs to be EAA. Opened m48t58y.35d file in a Hex editor, changed code from UAA to EAA and re-saved.
I have a GQ4X4 programmer which can program M48T58Y chips. Loaded the code (in Binary mode) to the programmer and bridged pins 26 and 28 to put chip into programming mode. Programmed without verify and programmer said success. Removed bridge between pins 26 & 28 and then did a verify - code verified OK (failed after end of code address as rest of chip is blank). Double checked by reading the chip back and checking contents of buffer matched the code which it did.
Put chip back into PCB rebooted but still have same error. Re-flashed both chips multiple times using above method but still same result.
I'm kinda at a loss what to try next. I've read on the net that the chip may need to be 'initialised' first time machine is booted to flash the time data onto the chip but no idea how to do this or if that is correct.
Anyone have any tips?
Thanks
