Sit down driver - help!

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase another cab... But need a lot of opinion and advice please.

I have the following 'wants';

Sit down driver,
Sega cab,
Ability to output a ps3 on the screen (a little odd, I know but I currently have two Naomi universals that I hook my NTSC ps3s up to for use as screens on Fifa nights, etc!)

My initial thoughts are to wait it out for an Initial D cab - what kind of price should I look for on one of these?

What other cabs might fit my loose and fairly unhelpful spec?!

Any of the Sega sitdowns will suffice if you swap out the chassis/tube to a VGA model so you can connect the PS3 easily, after that it is just controller hacking to your PS3 (prob best to use a Driving force wheel), I have a Sega rally with PC internals Running Model 1, 2 & 3 games (and more)

Oh, adding to that a lot of peeps don't like the size of the ID cab wheel, and you only get the up/down shifter I think not an H shifter.

As ZED has said, without changing the screen your looking at any SEGA JVS enabled sitdown for minimal effort.

Prices from £400 seem to be the current value depending on condition and hardware spec.

Alternatively get an EMPTY Sega M2 or M3 driver and fit LCD and start from scratch.

It all depends if you want to run any original Arcade Hardware on the machine, if you do then you will need to be more specific about your criteria, if not then don't waste your money destroying a JVS machine get a cheap shell and pimp it with Console controls & hardware.

Thank you both, given me something to start thinking about,

@zed - How achievable is the hack to use the controls? Whilst I'm pretty technical, I'm more 0's and 1's than hands on (and very time poor - new baby!).

@setch, at this point I'm 50/50 I'd love to keep the integrity of the machine but know I 'll want to fit in other games (sega rally and crazy taxi are my grail cabs) be them arcade or console.

Any ideas on general availability for jvs drivers or model 2/3 shells?

Hack wise it's 3 pots and a bunch of buttons resoldered at the end of the day, the time it will take depends on how good you are at it and how tidy you want to be, and unscrewing stuff.

As for games you can have both of those running great if you go the PC/emulation route

Thanks, are there any 'standard' guides or tutorials for this? Reading and following I'd be fine, otherwise it might be a struggle!

Hacking a wheel is pretty straight forward, be easier to help when you know what cab you will end up with and what you are going to actually put in it, I know where ya might get an empty ID cab cheapish though, it's prob 200 or so miles away though, good news though if you have a decent sized car you can fit a dismantled cab in with Tetris skills
