A year ago i deleted my facebook account and felt more happy i was fed up of all the depressing posts and arguments between contacts, A few weeks ago i got a iphone and it was saying i was averaging 10hours a day so i deleted my instagram account and im now down to 7hours
Now ive decided to delete my whatsapp.. i have a mates of here i speak to but i also get other mates sending me stupid videos all the time and pictures ive seen a million times before
I felt at one point the internet was really useful but its getting abused
my close mates think im crazy but i feel it will be better
the plan is to get a basic mobile just for calls and texts, wont have to charge it everyday either
Itll also stop me going on the forum all day in work
i would be alot happier sitting at a desktop when i want to go online the only problem i can see is whatsapp was easy to send pictures of arcade parts across to friends but i suppose i still have email
anyone else here who doesnt bother with social media/ messengers?

People think I am nuts because I have a non-smartphone in the mix of devices.

But when I go surfing or mountain biking.. I'm off the grid (well the internet anyway).

Everyone needs some space from the noise .. especially when permanently connected 24/7 the rest of the time.

Im not on any social media sites. I used to be on Facebook (which I only joined because a sports club i was a member of did all of the organising on there) I left the club last year and closed my facebook account a few months after that. I've kept messenger on my phone to contact some of the old members occasionally as its the only contact I have for them.

I only really browse forums, and watch youtube videos

i love it, great to keep in touch with people far away, and am in a few hobby based social media groups that are fun. Cant remember the last time I sent an actual sms message, and i dont really like talking on the phone so suits me just fine. I rarely post much as myself on social media but its a good promo tool for business side of things.

Totally agree that its hugely saturated and sometimes annoying etc. i just pretty much ignore anything im not interested in, what people had for dinner, politics, religion etc etc.

Facebook is the greatest thing ever invented. How anybody could last 5 minutes without it is beyond me.

Yeah Right.

I have no social media, period. Unless you include a couple of forums. I don't even own a mobile phone. Don't pay a TV license so no TV. No laptop or tablet. Don't even own a stereo anymore. But I do have an ancient MP3 player for when out on my mountain bike, and an old PC.

It's just me, my son and my wife, a few arcadey items, my workshop, and my cats (of course!). I wouldn't have time for SM even if I wanted to.

But, if you realy do care that Fifi-Trixabella, the unemployed chav with 6 kids from the local estate and with 12,000 genuine online friends has just had her eyebrows and botox done.... knock yourself out!

I just have Youtube, no other social media for me either.

Well I did have a Myspace page at some point but haven't used it for years.

When I feel brave I get Youtube to take me on a wild suggested video ride, then see what my suggested video list looks like in the aftermath. Now my suggested list is full of cute cats, starving dogs being rescued and kids getting adopted in among the stuff I do actaully find interesting. Thank God for the not interested option!

On social media I don't miss the fake news and BS that it propagates.

I also don't miss seeing updates from fake people doing fake stuff trying to impress their fake friends who also do fake stuff, and I certainly don't miss ads that follow me all around the internet that are trying their best to sell me something that will make my life happier.

I admit social media can serve a purpose and can be very useful, but I'm happy without them, I'm old school and just prefer forums and stuff. I find it annoying when speaking to someone face to face and their phone beeps/chimes/makes other noises and they automatically pull out the phone to see what's happening. I don't want to turn into that person.

Never bothered with any of the social media stuff as i dont give my number out to everyone and dont really care what z list celebs the made in chelsea crew or the fake news have to say
You only ever here about what they want to tell you or sell to you

The few frends that i have on whatsapp are all in the same in sence of humor/interests so i only get sent interesting or stuff that i find funny

I dont carry my phone all of the time either
the idea of being contactable at all times of day is not good
I do miss just being able to dissapear for a few days because there was no phone box near by :)

Work is the same they expect you to answer the work mobile imediatley the factory is not that big and all the workers can see what machine you are fixing whats wrong with actually walking the few meters and speaking to me if its that important
(It usually isent )

Tv is all adverts and bull sh*t
I only watch the grand tour on amazon prime thats it
The rest of my time is spent watching old 70s-90s sitcoms
On dvd

Sad that if you go to the pub or a resteraunt nowadays
Most people are just stareing at there phones

Never bothered with the Social Media crap

I can see it's good if you have a business but how much of peoples days are wasted on there phones must be off the scale, no wonder the country is such a mess, It was bad enough before that came along with lazy people at work, can't imagine what it's like now, if they ain't on that it's stupid game apps they waste hours a day on

I put whatsapp on my phone because I could send pics to my Dad, he likes to see what projects I'm working on but didn't realise everyone in your contacts would see you on it, then I get bombarded with all the stupid videos etc like you said from 2 mates, when it said about updating it I just uninstalled instead

Smartphone is useful, specially when working weekends as I miss lots of stuff then on here or ebay, but that's about all I do and look up info for stuff I working on like cars, but then get pissed off with all the stupid google adverts, you can't get away from that sh*te, the older mobile wasn't as bad but now it makes using internet really poor experience

The internet started off really basic and there wasn't as much content on it, but what was there was good, it got better but now it's the pits, you can't find much anymore, full of crap and adverts, when you search for things you just get all your own stuff. How much of you life is out there for everyone to see it just crazy which is why I don't go on Social Media, though you do miss out on some useful stuff I guess. All this lets see how many friends I've got, gotta go on to see if someone commented on what I said, then people get depressed because they got no response or trolled is just so sad

Why are people so obsessed with what everyone else is doing is beyond me, get on with your own life, or is that sad, you see parents in McDonalds glued to their phone, once this Kid was shouting MUM, MUM, MUM listen to me, the girl could of wondered off out there and she wouldn't of bloody noticed, I wanted to say, well bint listen to ya daughter, so sad to see

Like you Say robotech, TV full of adverts. Used to be 25mins of programme with 2 mins of adverts, now it's just over 10 mins of programme, 5mins adverts, 10 mins programme 5mins adverts again, you can't get away from Adverts, go toilet somewhere and there are adverts infront of you and you can't even drive across the M6 without road side moving video adverts, what idiot thought putting a huge tv screen with moving images/video at the side of a motorway thought it was SAFE, how the hell did that get passed. Distracted by a video or txt on phone or by TV Advert at side of road, is there much difference? yet one you get done for

and why do police think it's a good idea to put Accident Here 18 of August 2017 sign at side of motorway, what the hell, do you stop in front of it to write down the number, pull on the hard shoulder or as I call it Vauxhall Lane, to write the number down, just crazy

My work is same, I'm driving half the day, if I don't answer my phone straight away, I come out of petrol station or shop and I've got like 10 missed calls, office, manager, god and there saying we've been trying to get hold of you, bloody el, I repair a machine not doing open heart surgery whats the hurry, sorry for filling the crap van with fuel and having to cue, they are stupid, but when we need them, there on lunch breaks, managers still in bed and so on

That's my daily moan sorted
smiley1.gif
the other half can have a peaceful day now lol

I’m an advocate of social platforms if used appropriately - I keep in touch with long distance friends and I’ve made new real life friends through arcade / gaming groups.

I work in marketing and I’ve a degree in advertising etc so I actually quite like all the random stuff and ads etc - I find the whole thing interesting. Especially the crazy targeted adverts you get.

That said pictures of dinner and selfies in a toilet aren’t a good use of social media!

Had to buy another remote for my main TV as I wore out the mute button. I always mute adverts, or even hit the programme guide button so I don't have to look at them either, if something really annoying comes on... which is getting more frequent.
