Ive just picked up a softmodded original Xbox, ive got a load of Xbox games on DVDs from back in the day. The Xbox has the original hard drive, is it easy to upgrade to a larger SATA drive and whats the best way of getting the games onto the hard drive, can they be in ISO format? Also can the Xbox use component cables like the PS2?

The Xbox uses IDE drives

You have to save the key from the Xbox and then you can rebuild an new drive on a PC using that key with xboxhdm Linux.

The games are stored the same as the disk content (not ISO). Once you have a larger drive you can rip games to the hard drive directly

If you want to use ISO's you need to unarchive them and FTP the contents to the Xbox

Hope that helps

That's a pity about the hard drive I was hoping you could maybe use a SATA drive with an adapter.

You can use a sata hdd with an adapter upto 2gig.But you will need an 80 wire cable to connect the dvd drive and hdd to the motherboard. You can use the program chimp to upgrade the hdd takes about 20 mins. You can also add all your games off disc onto the hdd using another program if I remember its called dvd2xbox.

Have a look on youtube for 2016 xbox softmod. Its by a Scottish chap called rocky5 his vids are great and simple to follow.aztecca2016-12-29 16:48:22

I got an original xbox from a car boot the other month and manged to soft mod it and change the HD found a few teething problems with file names but got some help... The easiest bit was changing the HD to a 200gb one I was surprised how easy so assuming the info above is similar then if I can do it I'm sure you can :)
