[ukvac] TECH: Gorf
Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a Gorf PCB set (the 6 PCBs in
the cage) to Jamma? The pinouts on Spies have some strange descriptions.
Pointers to websites or other that would should me how to do the conversion
would be appreciated. cheers, Steve

RE: [ukvac] TECH: Gorf
Hmmm,

There might be a very quick answer to that - and I suspect it's in the
region of 'No', but I'll check the manual out tommorrow just to check
unless someone says otherwise in the meatime...

Certain things spring to mind (aside from the 6 board cage you already
mentioned!), one is that it's stereo - guess this is no major biggy,
secondly I think it's some weird kind of stick from the adjustment I
remember being shown how to do when I got mine, and finally, I'm pretty
sure it uses some variations on voltages.

Oh well, I'll check it out if needs be.

Guddler.

Gorf to JAMMA?

The answer is yes. My Gorf I bought was jamma converted, and I had
already made a JAMMA loom for my set before hand. Things to note:

1. Guddlers right - stereo souynds form gorf. In my case i have 1
channel thru the jamma connector and the other going directly to the
speaker in the cab. Wouldnt be hard to make a quick circuit to
combine the channels tho.
2 Ranking Lights - mine are qired directly into the original loom as
the op quite rightly didnt need to chop that part of the loom about.
3. The connectors are 0.1" jobbies. I used a whole pile of 10-way
ones but I think CPC do single 25-way ones which would help immensely.
4. Naturally the joystick fire light wont be applicable either :p
5. DOnt forget for a proper Gorf set you need the rack pcbs, the
sound pcb (i originally mounted the metal bracket of the sound to the
card rack (theres a hole in each) so thy were nicely together, and
finally you need the RGB board as well. WIthout this you're stuffed
anyhow.
6. Wiretap pinouts (http://www.spies.com/arcade/boardPinouts/Gorf.txt)
Ok To summarise:
-Anything that says "to Control PC" wire sitraight to the jamma
finger in the direction stated against the pin
-Anything saying "to Audio PCB" naturally wires to the stereo pcb so
connect as the wiretap syas then decide whether you want to habndle
stereo sperately or build a combining circuit.
-Anything saying "to display pcb" ignoreunless you ant to buld a
lighting rig into your jamma cab (excessive!)
-Anything saying "to interface PCB" means the rgb board

Cheers
Rav

PS if its all too much I'd trade ya gorf bits off ya :p
