[ukvac] [Tech] Time Pilot
Just to change the subject completely :O)

I have a Time Pilot (bootleg, but follows the same schematics as the
original). On power up the board will not boot and leaves me with the
proverbial screen full of garbage.

I've checked out the two Z80's (one on the CPU board, one on the Sound
board), and the one on the sound board has address lines A11, A15 and
A10 (pins 1, 5 & 40) tied low. Now clearly I need to check the ram that
these address lines lead to and any TTL in between, but my question is
this....

Whilst this is clearly a problem, would it cause the board to not boot.
I.e. is the CPU board dependant on the successful initialization of the
sound board? Or is there likely to be another problem there too?

Incidentally, I did swap the two Z80s over and the problem still
remained with the sound board, so I'm guessing that the Z80s are fine.

Cheers for any help,
Guddler.

Re: [ukvac] [Tech] Time Pilot
Hi also

Have a Bootleg Time pilot

With lots of piggyback boards plugged in two of um in the middle of the
board was causing all my problems with the board not booting and leaving
garbage on the screen

Have you checked these? for bad connections

Regards

Darren

Haven't yet done anything other than the quick check mentioned. The
sound board dows have two of these makeshift boards, which I assume to
be ram chip conversions, and funnily enough they do use the address
lines that are currently low - I believe.

So, yes, I'll check these out, ta.

Martin.

Re: [ukvac] [Tech] Time Pilot
the game is not dependant on the sound CPU running... you can have the game
playing with the sound cpu removed on lots of other similar era konami
hardware.. The cpu board needs the sound board plugged in of course for RGB
output and inputs and stuff, but the sound cpu is isolated from it and not
needed for the board to bootup. Speaking form experience of other konami
games, I can't see how Time Pilot would be different to any other konami
game i've worked on..

I would ignore the sound cpu state right now and go for main board, worry
about sound later...

Cheers Andy,

This is kindof bad news as I thought I was getting somewhere with my
board skills at last :O)

Back to the drawing board on the CPU side of things then.
