Hi Corn.

I have been told that F355 will run on Naomi single board machines but at half speed. I would be really grateful if you could try the HEX code out for that game. If you don’t have the correct Twin ROM set I can send it to you.

If it works then I will see about trying to get an EEPROM made to test it out on my machine.

Interesting development!

Personally I prefer CRT as that's what I'm used to and have fitted in my cabs. But, it's nice to have a backup plan if CRT's fail. I just wonder if there will be any undesirable side effects like glitching or slowdown?

Thats a good point. I will test it out thoroughly before I even consider changing out the CRTs. But all the dreamcast widescreen hacks work without issue.

i really want to play crazy taxi on my outrun2 cab via my netdimm setup, but the button configurations are weird so the gear stick doesn't work. without physically patching the cables, is it possible to rework the rom file in a similar way? that would make it so much more convenient to play.

Is there more being drawn though? I’m not saying there isn’t, but there’s lots of vertical real estate lost with the wide FOV. Might just about even out.

My understanding of the way the HEX patches work for DC games... and I assume Naomi, Gamecube etc etc etc is that it adjusts the camera to widen the FOV. So it's not really that more is being drawn on screen.... that stuff already exists. it's just that now you can see it.

Here's the link to Esppirals Discord for all of the HEX codes he's done already. https://discord.gg/RFH4yJ8h

Yeah, the way widescreen worked on the actual consoles was to keep the resolution the same (the TV does the stretching) and open the field of view, to view more stuff horizontally, so I'd imagine there probably is a few more polygons in-shot (not that there was ever a noticeable performance hit).

I don't think they ever just cropped the sky/ground from the vertical of the 4:3 image as you'd wind up with an main vehicle/character taking up a huge amount of the screen.
