Hi All

I need to upgrade my Roadshow pin from L-3 to L-6, can anyone confirm if there is anything for me to watch out for while performing this upgrade having never done one before I want to make sure I'm not going to f**k it all up..

I assume its a single ROM at position U6 on the WPC CPU Board and uses a 27c040 as indicated in the Manual.

Is it as simple as burning a new chip and changing it over or is there anything else to it ?

Thanks in advance

yes there is a full write up of the different revisions with lots of fixes from L-3 to L6 (with L-4 & L-5) inbetween.

no expert, but looks like bug fixes, adjustments to features etc. can't see why it can't all be in the game data on that 1 27c040 chip. do you have the means to burn this file? i might have some 27c040 spare on a donor board if you need someone to burn it for you.

You just swap the chip out. If the chip is original with a nice sticker I would keep it and burn a new rom. Easy to swap back then too.

Yes have all the gear to do it but just wanted to check on risk factor :)

Thanks for confirming Oll, I checked last night and the chip doesn't have a label but will keep it as a spare anyway, strange to think it might have been replaced but with an old version at some point..

All done.

Pretty simple really and turning the shaker off really does let me get a bit more used out of it, it's quite late so will try the soft motor option tomorrow and see how that is.

Just out of interest, is it normal to play pinball with totally default options or are there specific settings that players enable to improve the game or for high score set up ?

since mine are all on freeplay anyway, I usually change the 'Replay' option to give an extra ball instead - makes more sense!

Changing the eprom - on some pins you also need to remove / replace the battery so the CMOS is cleared - caused me some oddities on a data east pin once (X Files), but that is the only one that ever did weird things following a rom upgrade. (went to some strange coin settings)
