Weller ps-2d glowing red

Hi guys ..so during one of my projects I turn my soldering iron on and while I leave it to warm up and come back I see that's it's glowing red ..not just the tip but the shaft too

..has anyone ever had this happen and how did you fix it ..any tips would be greatly appreciated

Yikes. I would guess the thermostat has failed.

Is this something in the base itself or the pen 10p ? ..is it something that can be replaced at all or am I looking at a new pen ..God there expensive ..looks cheaper to get a new station lol

I honestly don't know, sorry. Think it might depend on make/model. I have a Metcal that automatically regulates temperature (no manual temp setting) and think there's some gubbins in the tip cartridges. And yes, they are expensive!
