That's interesting because the springiness you mention is exactly one of the things I'm trying to get rid of. I actually bought a Happ/Suzo back in 2005 and had a similar experience. I found it too springy on return to neutral, which made reacting quickly and doing fighting-game movements harder for me.

The older Suzo sticks I'm trying to identify felt very different, which is why I've become interested in the different Suzo variants and rubber grommets rather than assuming they all feel the same.

I've got a red-bottom Suzo coming and should be able to test it in a few weeks. I'll let you know how it compares once I've actually used it.
I'm invested in learning how it goes! Thanks for sharing :)

Tangentially related to repairing arcade stuff, I assembled one of these Retro Chip Tester Pro which means I can now test lots of chips:

If anyone is tempted to build one, the one piece of advice I can give is don't underestimate how many 1N4733 diodes you need to buy to find 32 that have an acceptable voltage threshold. I ended up buying 200 and went through 145 before I had 32 that I considered acceptable.

I bought one pre-assemled. Great bit of kit.

This was started in 2020. The cabinet when purchased had a 25” monitor squeezed into it. Due to the added weight, the cabinet over the years had become weaky and wobbly due to some of the structural timbers splitting and the weak ‘ wire like nails ‘ that were used to assemble these were simply not man enough. It got to the point where the cabinet could not be moved without the back door being fitted or it would have literally folded under it’s own weight.

Over the years I have become more opposed to unnecessary restoration work as the original patina has become more important but in this case, I either sold it or tried to do something about it.

Unfortunately, shortly after the cabinet was stripped and disassembled, I lost interest in the hobby as a whole, covered the cabs up and walked away. Unfortunately, the pictures of the repairs that I had previously carried out have been lost over the years.

Recently, the hobby has come storming back, my interest has peaked again and yesterday I started to bring Galaxian back from the dead.

After dragging it out, putting it onto a couple of work mates and working out how it went back together, I made a start. The slot/groove type of joinery made this a bit of a puzzle and the three pieces had to go back together in order. It was almost a Krypton Factor style puzzle but got there eventually.

I needed was some glue, some screws, some filler and some 80’s tunes. It was great to be back working on this old friend.

You could put a hand grenade inside this now and it would stay standing, happy with how it turned out.

I’ve just ordered cellulose primer and some pure white cellulose paint to match. I hope to spray and complete this before the Winter.

@pjskilllz - Grab yourself one of these, worth every penny. Been using them for over a twenty years and they are super comfortable (to the point you drive home with it still on and look an absolute prat!)

3M Mask

They work for all dry dust and can also be used for all types of spraying and asbestos etc.

When Covid arrived, I was wearing these as opposed to the standard masks because they actually work.

Crazy Balloon is an awesome game. Don't convert it.
I wouldn’t hurt or damage
Anything .

Just talking about th possibility of an alternate control panel and
just flip screen for some horizontal
And have an alternate control panel ,

keep it as crazy balloon and fix game,

But also have another panel another loom , and another psu ,can go in, and flip screen to horizontal,

Not hurting any original stuff
Leaving it all alone .
But also having a hori mode avalible,
On the cab , duplicity.
For some alternate games also .
I’m just thinking out load of what
I would want if I can squeeze this into
My games room.

Or if I need to move it on .
Cab needs a lot of tidying up.
Missing coin box
Missing power toggle switch
Glass I can take care of ;)
Scratched to bits as usual .

Legs rusty
Hinges rusty
White fungus underside of lid
Ply under side of lid delaminated
Chrome corner clips need sorting
Looks corrosion ..
Crazy ballon - missing main ballon sprite . So a great little winter project :)

I have already done this non aggressive comvertion to 2 cocktails
Keeping everything original untouched , and still have a jamma loom and mister and new psu .image.jpg
I have the psu convertion kit ..
Or I can make my own loom
But will recap the original psu ,

when you say ceefax on your pi - do you mean you're hosting it as a service for your TV to pick up? What sort of stuff are you putting on it? This is fascinating
So you use a Pi (any) and install some software onto the O.S. Then you plug into your TV and it pulls down internet data so it's all up to date. You select teletext on your TV and it will display through your Pi's composite port. Easier to do on a pi 1 but can be done on any Pi. It's just like the real thing :)
