Anyone else had a call where they just ask to confirm your name, and when you say "yes", they hang up? This is presumably to get a recoding of me saying "yes", but what's it used for?

Edit: rang my bank as they have my voiceprint for phone banking, but they assured me a recording of me saying "yes" a couple of times isn't enough for fraud. They are aware of the scam, which apparently comes in two parts, so I need to be extra wary of calls/texts/emails trying to extract further personal details. What a world...

I'm turning into a caveman with all these conveniences related to your money. Tapping a card, online banking, phone banking and all. Having a voiceprint is a new one to me. No thanks.

Basically the convenience you're getting is also the convenience for getting robbed blind. Feels like flies on sh*te sometimes with the amount of scams coming at you left right and centre these days.

online/mobile banking..i think anyone who doesn't use these are near prehistoric humans these days, why on earth would you need to walk into a bank and speak to someone in this day and age?

you arent turning into a caveman, you are one

They pretty much made it impossible to go to my bank and easily speak to someone. The couple of times I've been in in the last few years there is only one person at a desk and you have to discuss your buisness infront of the entire queue, no thanks.

Online banking is very convenient but I'm always a bit worried that someone will hack my phone and get hold of my details.

Never heard of the "Yes" scam. I could use that on my Wife when I buy another cab and the she claims she said no.

My bank does still have a few staff, but I agree they make it awkward having to discuss your personal business for all to hear. Probably do it on purpose as part of the relentless push to do everything online.

It doesn't make much sense as a scam.

Is it not just a way of seeing if you're there, so you can get lots more automated unsolicited calls?

I walked into an actual bank the other day as I needed a wad of cash to pay a 'caveman'. It was hard enough finding a time where the bank was actually open.

I have read online that it might just be a way scumbags verify a name and phone number to sell on to other scumbag scammers. 90% of my calls are scam calls already.

We've still got a landline and I don't bother to answer it anymore (if I'm in).
If anyone wants to speak to us, they can speak to the answering machine for a few seconds first.

Unfortunately I'm quite reliant on my landline as my mobile signal is crap at home. I always look at caller ID and don't answer the obvious scam calls, but have started getting some that manage to spoof a local number etc.

Over the last couple of months I've had a few reasons to go into banks and all because their online systems were ropey as hell.

I'd say several hours were spent talking on phones and using computers with some people I could barely understand from call centres in god knows where, giving out personal details and feeling quite uncomfortable about some randomer having that information.

In the bank itself it took about 5 minutes to sort out each time.

It's all super convenient until a problem comes up, and that's when you find out the cost of that convenience.

I avoid all that stuff like the plague. You don't need to worry about getting robbed by sending bits of information through texts and emails and phonecalls and computers if you don't engage with it in the first place. And it's way easier in the end too.

People really need to start waking up to all that goes on, some of this stuff is done on purpose to bring in extra Security

In the 70s the Media hyped up items being stolen from Hospitals, so they can bring in CCTV and Security people and look at Hospitals now
smiley24.gif
, many things are created so when I see those old stories like people having a little handheld device that can mimick your debit/credit card and they input any number and it gets past chip n pin, funny I know no one it's happended to and the story ended there, but the fear media TV have it on stuff like News and GMB

Look at the Nectar Cards, those storys in Media about people having there Points stolen, I never had mine stolen and don't know anyone that did, not saying no one did but if they did probably done on purpose to scare people. now I changed mobile phone last year, I had about £350 in points and went to use them few months back, my ebay was no longer linked to it to spend any, I went through emails, had to go on Nectar site to do forgot password to login, after i'd been through all that, It then wanted to send txt to phone i had 6 plus years back, I could no longer login to update my number, I then had to phone Nectar who want to ask security questions which i couldn't anwser as I'd never used em since setting it up about 18 years before. So your now forced to have Mobile to have account

They then asked final question, how did I set it up which i was stuggling to answer, i just managed to scrape together enough details, this is not to protect us, this is to have full control over us

now everything is pushing you to have Mobile Phone, can't have Internet unless you give them Mobile Number, Partner said what if I don't have mobile? Now Broadband said then you can't sign up

So what are older people going to do when Analogue Landline ends soon, its going like business through router and you will be forced to have Internet they don't want, then forced to have mobile phone to get landline phone

Because of all the people Embrasing the NEW TECHNOLOGY and these Damn SMART PHONES you will see the world of Control hitting us big time

I don't care what people think, it's time you all get your head out the sand, waking up to the Chinese state were heading for, Social Credit Scores will be on us in no time, Your Credit Score is the start of that, I've never engaged with Any Credit Score crap but I must be a small minority

Anyone that doesn't believe whats happening and just says I'm ok, don't affect me should listen to Dr Vernon Coleman, the only type of Dr I would be happy to have seen when he was a GP and listen to his UK Column Chat, example of a Doctors Colman worked at his practice, the owner went on holiday, Dr Coleman said himself and another cleared his backlog for him while he was away, they thought he would be delighted on his return but went mad at them, said you have destroyed my business, why is anyone now going to pay me Privately when there is no waiting list, that's Doctors for you, just in it for the money, most are nothing to do with health

He warned about the Inflation and Energy Costs going up in 2020 along with everything else, he's what late 80's early 90s and he's more clued up than most people, you can listen to his old videos showing he was right

If you choose to listen to Mainstream Media now your Crazy, if you listen to what they say about people telling truth, your insane

If you want to keep Freedom, stop paying for everything with Smartphones and embrasing this Technology sold to you to make life easier and use cash before it's gone, as then you really are in trouble

I suggest people seriously watch

Johnny's Cash and the Smart Money Nightmare

This 2 step Authentication is brought in on these security issues they create on purpose, stop thinking they care about us, they don't

Totally agree, the more people like us they longer it will take them to fully control us.

I'm not engaging with any of it where I can, sod Technology, I'm happy living in 80's 90's and I'm surprised more into the Arcade Machines aren't like us, I thought more would be being honest

Can't stand the Technology now plus everything takes ages to work, how long it takes to start watching a bluray movie from switching on the player, VHS was instant, power on 1 sec press play film on in seconds

After seeing some of what Virtual Reality Headsets are doing to kids I won't be going down that road either, old ones fine, nope I'm sticking to old stuff, don't want modern cars that stop you having to think for yourself doing it all for you, people will be braindead in no time

Did i really just read that all modern tech is crap as vhs used to load instantly and loading a blu ray disc takes an extra 5 seconds?

Be kind rewind.

Isn't blu Ray as dead as VHS?

I can't remember the last time I watched a film that wasn't streamed.

Netflix can take upwards of 8 seconds to load on my fire stick. Bring back betamax I say.

Our landline is the contact office / chairman / trustee of a registered charity so we get lots of robot calls and misc scammers but they hang up before the out message ends and the machine still records their number and some do spoof a local number soon after the original call

I often use the Google “who called me? “ Number tracker and the numbers often have scam reports but if they have none I comment that it’s likely a scam alert . Some numbers have loads of comments they usually say something like your card has payments of 700 pounds to Amazon and 2000 to international money transfer if these are ok to continue with the payments press one NEVER DO THAT it tells them you are available at that number and they may begin further scamming maybe?
