Germany seems to be the nation of the smashed arcade-machines.
Not long ago we saw the abondedend Hotel with tons of smashed machines and pinballs here is even a more shocking story.
Here was an arcade (I dont know if it was a hobby-project or a busniness) in a big old venue.
One
day the owner of the venue raised the rent and the user of the hall did
not approve that, so he paused the monthly payment. All that resulted
in a trail at the court.
Now, 3 years and a verdict later the guy
who ran the arcade lost the case and meanwhile the machines are part of
the dept as the owner did not had the money to cover the costs of 3
years (raised) rent + fees of the court and the lawyers.
Also, the owner of the venue ran into finacial troubles and so the entire building has been compulsory auctioned.
What really happened then will probably stay in dark for ever.
The
official version is that new owner did not lock the venue and some
junkies went in and smashed all the tubes to come by the copper-coils in
them.
It is also possible that the guy, that is notorious for
having less respect for the the machines (he smashed one at an
arcade-meeting) was angry and could´nt stay it that somebody else would
have the machines and smashed the tubes by him self.
Here is a video of the venue after the tube-war:
The
new owner want to tear down the entire area and build something new, so
he sent some workers with sledgehammers to "smaller" the remaining
stuff.
What was machines in the need of a monitor replacement is now a real bunch of trash.....
