Long shot this one but working on a Happy Frog whacker game from Game Plus for mate who owns arcade bar in Hull.

Has started coming up with Error Code 3 which, according to manual, is a ticket dispenser error.

However there is no ticket dispenser board inside machine and no ticket dispenser connected and never has been since guy has had it.

I have turned off ticket dispenser function in settings menu (setting 9) in settings menu.

Game will not credit up or start and service button does nothing.

As I say, long shot, but just wondering if anyone has same machine and can help out please?

Thanks

Andy

I’m not familiar with the machine, but I wonder if the machine has done some sort of ram clear (and gone back to the default settings). Perhaps some other settings also need to be adjusted if there is no ticket dispenser fitted?

Thanks for the suggestion but there are only two settings relating to ticket dispenser. Manual says set both of these to zero to disable ticket dispenser which I have done - to no avail :-(

I dont know the machine either , but , if the dips do disable the dispenser than its either a faulty dip switch (dirty maybe ?) Or its the board. I would check continuity on dips tk test.

Before i read you coukd disable dispensor from dip i was gng to say check there is no other switches anywhere.

You Sure that error only shows with dispenser error ?? Seen it before when it displays for multiple issue and you fall down the rabbit hole.

Dave.

There are no dips or n the board.

Instructions are very lite but they do say err 3 is ticket dispenser fault. All other fault codes are two part (eg. E1 - 2) and relate to faulty solenoids or sensors for individual frogs.

So the ticket dispenser option was on before you changed it and the machine had been working fine for some time. Hmm, not sure how these 'sense' the ticket dispenser but is there a chance someone had shoved an inductor/resistor across the ticket dispenser plug to fool it into thinking one was connected and it has come loose or fallen out with the whacking and vibration maybe.

The ticket dispenser has just two wires coming out from it to a connector which is connected to nothing and never was. It’s not even a dispenser as far as I can see - just a panel on front of machine - there’s certainly no mechanism to it. You can just make it out in photo - top left of coin door

I am not sure ticket dispenser was ever switched on in menu - I’ve adjusted quite a few settings. I have it set to zero in options now so shouldn’t be registering ;though there is no ticket dispenser connected and never has been.

Ok, I only asked when you disconnected them in the old days they would go straight into alarm and nothing would work. Some clever people put a component across the wires to mimick the motor being in place so the game would function. So wondered if that had fallen out of the connector.

It's a bit like the way arcade cranes monitor whether the coil is connected or what size claw it has, the voltage across the wires drops depending on the resistance of the coil and the pcb monitors this. So maybe the same thing happens with the ticket dispenser, it has a motor and therefore a small resistance which the pcb could be monitoring. Unlikely but you never know. Maybe there is a way you could restore it to factory settings and then just disable the dispenser. A lot of these style games could be set to freeplay through the settings or via the credit board dips. I'd always recommend unplugging all the connectors and then put them back in too. Good luck hopefully someone will know your situation.

A ticket dispenser should have 4 wires to work. Are you sure this is actually a ticket dispenser connector you are looking at?

I have known a Ben Bones redemption machine to lock up with a ticket dispenser error, and the only way of clearing it (without doing a factory reset by wiping all the settings) is by physically plugging in a ticket dispenser. You would have to load up a connected dispenser with some tickets, then power cycle the machine (ie., turning if off-then on) to let it re-boot, then it would spit out the owed tickets and clear the error.

If you have a spare ticket dispenser and a hand-full of tickets, try temporarily connecting one up to see if it will clear the error.

Also try a factory ram clear if possible.

The sad state of everything made in China, no decent information and getting parts, well not much chance, don't last long before they go faulty. Would steer clear of it all and buy some older quality made machines for arcade or home use

Yep crappy manual at best, says settings 8&9 need to be zero for no tickets but looks like setting 10 should also be set to zero as well. Couldn't see any way to clear the ram, usually a machine would supply an option. Normally you'd power the machine down then press and hold one or a combination of the buttons and power it up and it would clear owed tickets. As mentioned all these cheap machines(£800-£900 new if bought direct including delivery) were designed to last 5 years maximum after that you were supposed to have made a ton of money(£1 or 50p a go) and then bin it and spend some of your profit on a new piece and the cycle begins again.
A bit like punch or kicking machines that have the crystalline style fuses that are rated for 7000-8000 uses(£1 a go). When these start playing up most people are advised to buy a new power pcb for £200 and are happy to do that to keep it going rather than pay 49p for a new fuse and change that themselves lol. Oh I miss the days when normal electronics was close to the military standard all bar the component tolerances.
If they can't get it going I'm sure it would sell to someone with a working one looking for spares. Sorry we couldn't help on this one. Oh also the 2 wires you mentioned probably just go to a red led on the front of the machine and would plug into the pcb on the ticket dispenser this would flash every time a ticket is dispensed providing the customer extra satisfaction.

Thanks for all the advice and sticking with it. I’ll tell the guy he should sell for spares 👍
