I’ve found out there’s a lot of let’s say ,not exactly love of 720 by Atari

What do you guys think of marble madness
As with most arcade games .i absolutely love the game .
Why do I like it ?
I love games now that you don’t have to sit for hours upon hours playing .
It’s a real quick fix
Though saying that I’ve put a considerable amount of hours into marble madness.
For the year it came out ,it was quite advanced .original, and has some nice Easter eggs
Trackballs ,two player ,great sound and graphics and it’s tough but fair
What’s not to like ?
Any good players on here , I can’t get past level 5 but I’m gonna work on it and believe my cab is set to hard or very hard difficulty

i have only played it briefly, and some of that was on the master system, so i think that doesnt count, but its a great game for me

i really need a trackball and spinner setup for these sort of games at home though

First time I played this was at Southend Pier AMF bowling alley before it was demolished. In my fifth year at school I was allowed to go bowling for my sports period, I didn't really go for the bowling so much it was to get out of school and to be able to play Marble Madness after bowling.

I ended up buying an Atari System 1 mainboard at the first opportunity from the U.S. and the System 1 cartridge, together with a couple of Happ coloured trackballs to just to be able play this game at home.

Ended up buying most of System one games except Peter Packrat which was super rare. Now I just play on Aarons System 1 multi, far more reliable than the individual cartridges (y)

Marble madness music was what drew me to it plus the unique gameplay. When I was trying to make a compatible System 1 Jamma adapter all the games were ground for controls except Indiana Jones which was +5v for controls so I used a reed relay and use the normal Jamma GND wire to ground the relay at the Jamma adapter to supply the +5v on the relay side which was needed back to the System 1 motherboard, this meant all games used GND for controls regardless of cartridge inserted.

I love this game. It's timeless in its aesthetics and the music is some of ataris best. I used to play this on rollerskates at the local skate rink. It's quite a physical game so I never got to level 4 as a kid, but I can manage it fairly easily at arcade club now. On to level 5!

Yeah it gives you an upper body workout
I didn’t know how to actually play level 5 so cheated and watched on YouTube .
Well it’s not really cheating ,as it’s just like watching a good player in the arcade back in the day .
I still can’t get finish level 5 though ,but I also found some Easter eggs which has made the game even more fun

I love this game, play it quite a bit on my cab. Not very good at it though.
Whats the size of the trackball on an original cab, 3 inch? Think mine is 2 1/4.

It's one of my favourite games and has been since I was a teenager. Used to play it at the Majestic amusements in GY and after lots of practice I was able to complete it a few times. Loved the stereo electric guitar riff when you get a high score.
Then of course once I started digging boards out of a skip it was the one I was always hunting for. After a years or so I found one, and still have that board today.

It was my entry point to my system 1 collection.
I really love this game, but typically I have it just installed a few months a year, because it gets a kind of boring.

Peter Packrat is always on, switchable to Indy, and the other cab cycles with Marble Madness, Roadblasters and Roadrunner

Nice you can compete it ,I think a lot of these games you need to learn in your younger years and in the arcade with other players
Cool story about still having the board for a skip !

I know what you mean i go through spells of playing it and times I just can’t face it lol
Do you have all the original kits for your cab ?
I’ve only got roadblasters and mm
Would like roadrunner and the others ,I think the multi is my way of doing that at some stage

It was in the Britannia Pier arcade too.

Great game, always enjoyed playing it in the arcade and on the Amiga and like a lot of people I am not very good at it.

For those who have the PCB you may want to apply my rom hack to blink the start buttons in free play mode like a lot of other Atari games do.

I remember seeing screenshots of it in mags on the Amiga, and thinking wow! That's as close as I ever got to an Amiga, unfortunately. 😀
