Is the gotek the best option for adding games to the amiga 500? If so who is the best seller there's so many 🤣
(Really would prefer not to cut the amiga shell)

Hi Mate , Hope our well ?? I did this with my Amiga 500 ( I sold it and REGRET IT !) but yes the Gotek is the best, There is 2 option the standard and with a screen and a rotary button (You need to 3d print another part). I have some spares of these if you decide to do that ( I have a spare 3d case , Rotary knob and Screen I think) I just got one from Ali here :-

Or a White one here :-

They are all the same though , The ones on shit bay come from Ali ! It was the best way when I had one , Just stick games on a USB.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

i have a gotek in my amiga and its great, there are better options but others are a fortune, WHDLOAD for example

if i had to do my time again, i would get a gotek with a little screen that sits on top of the amiga, its a pain in the ass leaning over to the side to see what image you are loading

like this one, mine just has a screen on the gotek itself which sits inside the disk bay

I have 2 screens , 4 switches (i have tops as well not pictured) and 1 printed housing.

I am still tempted by another Amiga though !

Dave.

You could go down the external gotek route and use a boot selector so you've got the best of both worlds. Can do it yourself or pay a bit more and buy one ready done. I went for that with mine so i can use floppies or the gotek as drive 0, plus it saves modding the Amiga case. It's in an old Cumana drive case. I went for a switchless boot selector but you can get manual ones cheaper (would need a small hole in the case to install the manual switch)

Same as with Arcade stuff, Still prefer doing it the traditional way, Listening to the disc drive chugging away is part of the experience but can also play from the gotek if i fancy it. It's also an easy way of transferring files to floppy without needing a greasweazle.

@Del Griffith I got my drive today it's the external one.. only just come across it mentioning I need a boot selector for the 500 😒 do you have a link ?
I was thinking ahh maybe until I get one I'll plug it inside then realised looking at the back of the drive there's no pins installed for power 🤣

I've got the Amigakit one linked to above. It's easy to fit and works ok with no case modding. It has an annoying issue though. If the game has a cracktro screen, Some of them will auto switch the drive back to DF1 if you don't skip past it quickly. Bit annoying as it needs a reset. Mine is installed on a rev3 mobo so could be that tbh.

Got the gotek setup today but need to know if I'm doing something wrong 🤣 I put a few games on and when I load one up I then go into the drive set it to another then I do the crtl and amiga button reset it'll then load the next game but after 2 games it won't let me do it again if I chose a game and reset it does nothing unless I switch it off by the psu and back on.. is this normal?

Mine did occasionally just sit idle and not load a game if i reset the system to change games but not every 2 games or specific amount of times don't think. I usually power off and on because i have the psu right next to me (Habit from using superguns so much i guess)
